Planning an event in Grove?

Planning live paella in Grove

Grove is about 5 miles south-east of Herne Bay, in Kent. For paella catering in Grove, we plan around your venue and timings: a quote, a plan and live cooking on the day. Grove is one of 922 towns and villages in Kent we cover. We cook right across the region, from Grove to Canterbury (6 miles away).

If you’re organising a summer fair for a school like Preston Primary School, a paella stall is a crowd-pleaser. Nearby historic houses include Goodnestone Park (4.7 miles south). If your event is at a historic house or estate, check its rules on caterers and cooking early. The coast is within about 6 miles of Grove, so a seafood pan is a popular choice. Sea breezes can be strong, so we plan a sheltered cooking spot.

We cook at events all over CT3 and the streets around it. Neighbouring places where we cater events include Preston (1 mile south-east), Upstreet (1 mile north), West Stourmouth (1 mile north-east), East Stourmouth (2 miles east) and Sarre (2 miles north-east). We also cook in nearby towns such as Canterbury (6 miles west), Margate (9 miles north-east), Dover (13 miles south), Ramsgate (9 miles east), Broadstairs (10 miles east) and Whitstable (8 miles west).

Nearby you will also find St Martins Hospital (4.9 miles south-west).

  • Pubs nearby include The Grove Ferry Inn (0.9 miles north)

Paella catering in Grove, made fresh on the day

Paella has always been food for a crowd: cooked in the open in a big, shallow pan and shared straight from it. That’s what we bring to events in Grove. Whether it is festivals, fairs and school events and wedding breakfasts and evening food, we can cook vegan paella, chicken and chorizo paella and mixed paella for your guests.

Somewhere like Grove, a field or garden is frequently the perfect setting. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. Timings are planned around your event, whether that is speeches, a lunch break or a festival schedule.

Prices and what affects them

Each event is quoted on its own, based on a few main things:

  • Crockery and cutlery, or disposables
  • Guest numbers
  • Staff: cooks, waiting staff and bar staff
  • Extra courses such as canapés, tapas and dessert

Cost depends on guest numbers, the menu and the courses, along with staff, extras and travel. Every event gets its own quote.

Getting an accurate quote

You do not need every detail fixed to get a quote, but these help:

  • What the venue already provides
  • Whether you want canapés, tapas or desserts
  • A photo of the cooking space, if it is a garden or field
  • Diets and allergies you know about

Getting a quote is simple: share your date, venue, numbers and diets. We’ll send a clear, itemised quote and a suggested menu.

FAQs for Grove

What about events near the coast?

Yes, with a sheltered cooking spot. Wind is the main issue on the coast, so we plan shelter.

Is Grove too small for live paella?

No, we cook in small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and parking.

Can we choose the seafood?

We’ll talk through seafood options when we plan your menu.

Can you supply plates?

Yes, if you need them. Tell us what your venue provides and we will include the rest in the quote.

Do you have a kids’ option?

Yes. Children frequently love a simple chicken paella. Include children in your numbers.

Which paellas suit our guests?

That depends on who’s coming. Chicken and mixed paellas tend to go first, with seafood and vegetable pans alongside.

How much space do you need?

Not a lot: a level spot clear of fences, hedges and branches, with room for a serving table. Send us a picture if you are not sure.

Can you feed plenty of people?

Yes, that is what it is made for. We plan the number of pans and serving points around your numbers.

Should I cook it myself?

You can cook paella for a crowd yourself, but it takes practice. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right at scale is tricky. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, have hot stock ready, and don’t stir once the rice goes in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

Occasions we cook for in Grove

Paella is one of the few dishes that handles mixed diets easily, because each version is cooked in its own pan. Nobody gets a token ‘special meal’.

We can help if you’re planning any of the following:

  • Engagement and anniversary parties
  • Summer garden parties
  • Office lunches and staff parties
  • Christenings and family gatherings

For a christening or wedding at a church such as Church of St Mildred, a paella lunch or reception nearby is an easy way to feed everyone.

Before you book anyone

  • Staff numbers and hours
  • Whether travel is included
  • Whether crockery, cutlery and napkins are included
  • When final numbers are due

Not sure about your space? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

How the day works

From set-up to serving, we look after the food, so you’re free to enjoy your event. If you’ve chosen tapas or canapés, they go out first while the paella cooks. Around midsummer it stays light in Grove until about 9:15pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:00pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 3:50pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. Start with the date, the place and the numbers.
  2. Expect a menu idea and a clear, itemised price.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm the plan.
  4. We set up, cook from scratch and keep an eye on your timings.
  5. Guests are served from the pan, and our area is cleared afterwards.

Before we arrive

  • Leave space around the cooking area
  • Confirm the venue is happy with live cooking
  • Arrange a covered spot for wet weather

Getting a price

Most quotes start with a few simple details: the date, where the event is, how many guests and any dietary needs. To send them, send us your details through our quote form.

Why choose live paella in Grove?

Diets, allergies and planning

Every guest is catered for, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal included. To get it right:

  • Mention any other courses or food
  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down
  • Ask for labels on each pan
  • Choose two or three paellas so every guest has a choice

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We arrive in good time, set up, cook and serve, and keep in touch with you or your venue about timings.

Bread, salad and lemon go well alongside and suit guests who are not big rice eaters.

Working with your venue

If you’re organising for someone else, whether you are a planner, an office manager or an event organiser, we are happy to deal with you and the venue directly. It saves passing messages back and forth.

Planners and coordinators can contact us directly, and we will keep you updated on timings and set-up.
