Planning an event in Fernhurst?
Should I cook it myself?
You can cook paella for a crowd yourself, but it takes practice. Large pans need the right burners, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.
Cooking it yourself? Test your pan and burner first, have hot stock ready, and leave the rice alone once it’s in. And keep children and pets well away from the burner.
Paella catering in Fernhurst, cooked live
One cooking area feeds a lot of people, there is very little waste, and the food is served hot. That is why it works for so many events. Whether it is naming days and family parties and leaving dos and retirements, we will put together a menu of black rice, chicken and chorizo paella and seafood paella.
Somewhere like Fernhurst, a field or garden is often the perfect setting. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. Every pan is cooked in front of your guests, so it arrives hot and becomes part of the event.
The menu, dish by dish
Vegetable and vegan paella
The vegetable pan is a dish in its own right: artichokes, beans, peppers and saffron.
Mixed paella
Mixed paella brings meat and seafood together, and it’s often the first pan to empty.
Space, weather and the venue
The right spot keeps things safe and helps the paella cook evenly. We need:
- Somewhere close to park and unload
- Flat, firm ground for the cooking area
- The venue’s permission for live cooking
If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Catering for every guest
Nearly every event has some special diets. To cater well for them:
- Have seats for most of your guests
- Confirm allergies by email
- Add a dietary question to your invitations
- Make sure each pan is labelled
The rice takes about 20 minutes once it goes in, so we time it carefully. If timings shift, we adapt.
Spanish desserts such as churros or crema catalana finish the meal, or serve your own cake.
Fernhurst questions
Is Fernhurst close to London?
About 41 miles from central London.
Do you cater in the Surrey Hills National Landscape?
Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles, ground and cooking, so check with yours. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.
Is halal food available?
We can. Tell us how many guests need halal food, and it’s cooked separately.
Which areas do you serve?
London and the South East: Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight, including Fernhurst.
Can you cook in the rain?
We cook under cover, like a gazebo or open-sided marquee. We plan for rain with you in advance.
Do you do desserts?
Yes. Spanish desserts such as churros or crema catalana, or you can serve your own cake.
How far ahead should we book?
As soon as you have a date. Popular dates book up first, so get in touch early.
Do you cook it at the event?
It is. We arrive with everything we need and cook it there and then, serving it hot from the pan.
Step by step
The paella is cooked in giant, shallow pans over gas burners. We need a level, ventilated spot, and we agree where that is before the day. Around midsummer it stays light in Fernhurst until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it is dark by about 4:00pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.
- Send us your date, numbers and venue.
- We plan the menu with you, including every diet.
- We arrive early to set up the burners and pans.
- The sofrito, stock and rice go in, and guests gather to watch.
- We serve hot from the pan and clear our cooking area.
How to prepare
- Plan cover in case of rain
- Have a level space ready for the pans
- Tell us when you want to eat
How to get a price
It is easy to get a price: tell us the date, place, numbers and any dietary needs. We’ll send a clear, itemised quote.
