Planning the cooking area

The right spot keeps things safe and helps the paella cook evenly. We need:

  • Space well away from trees, fences and gazebo walls
  • Good ventilation: outdoors, or an open-sided cover
  • Confirmation that open cooking is allowed

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Paella catering for your event in Danaway

We cook every paella from scratch on the day, beginning with a sofrito of onion, garlic, peppers and tomato, then the stock, saffron and rice. For office lunches and staff parties and birthday celebrations, we’ll put together a menu of vegetable paella, vegan paella and chicken and chorizo paella and more.

Somewhere as small as Danaway, a garden or field is frequently the venue. Country lanes and long drives are no problem if we know about them, and a firm spot near where we park makes set-up easier. We serve straight from the pan, so it’s hot and generous, and service is quick once it is ready.

Dishes our guests love

Paella Valenciana

Valencians take their paella seriously. The classic version is chicken, green beans and butter beans with saffron.

Seafood paella

Prawns, mussels and squid in a rich fish stock, cooked until the rice is golden. It is generally the most photographed pan.

What paella catering costs

These are the factors that matter most:

  • Extra courses such as canapés, tapas and dessert
  • The paellas you choose
  • Timings and hours
  • Crockery and cutlery, or disposables

Larger events generally cost less per head, because the cooking set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

Details that help

You don’t need every detail fixed to get a quote, but these help:

  • Where the event is
  • Approximate guest numbers, including children
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergy numbers
  • Whether you want canapés, tapas or desserts

It’s easy to get a price: share your date, venue, numbers and diets. We will send a clear, itemised quote.

Catering for every guest

Dietary needs are easy to plan for with a little notice. Our advice:

  • Request clear labels at the serving table
  • Have seats for most of your guests
  • Pick a mix of paellas to cover every diet
  • Ask about diets and allergies on your invitation or RSVP

Let the paella rest for a few minutes before serving, which is when we normally call guests over.

Bread, salad and lemon wedges make the meal go further.

Live paella or other catering?

Compared with a hog roast or barbecue, paella makes vegetarian, vegan and halal guests easier to cater for, because each paella has its own pan. Service from the pan keeps queues moving. Seafood and premium ingredients cost more than chicken or vegetable paellas, so your choice of paellas affects the total. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest a menu.

Why us?

  • Events in Danaway and across Kent
  • Every diet catered for, pan by pan
  • Add tapas, canapés and Spanish desserts
  • Real theatre, not just catering

Events we cater in Danaway

12 questions to ask before booking

Questions from Danaway

Is Danaway close to London?

Roughly 35 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

Can you cook at venues in the Kent Downs National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules; ask your venue. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

What about pudding?

Yes. Spanish desserts such as churros or crema catalana, or you can serve your own cake.

Is the paella cooked on site?

It is. We bring the pans, burners and fresh ingredients and cook it there and then, serving it hot from the pan.

Can you feed a lot of people?

It is ideal. Large pans and fast service from the pan make it well suited to crowds.

Can the paella be cooked in a hall?

Mostly outside or under an open cover, since the burners are gas. Some venues have suitable spaces; we will check with you and the venue.

Do you take everything away?

We clear our cooking area away when service is finished. Clearing guests’ plates and tables can be added with waiting staff.

Can we add tapas or canapés?

Of course. Canapés with drinks or tapas for the tables, while the rice is cooking.

DIY paella versus live catering

Some hosts like to cook themselves. Common mistakes are mismatched pans and burners, overfilling and stirring. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the cooking.

You can hire equipment and do it yourself, but you’ll still need to source ingredients, prep and cook for hours. We take care of all of it.

What happens on the day

We arrive in good time before you want to eat, unload, set up the burners and prepare the stock. Your guests are welcome to watch as the paella takes shape. In Danaway, the sun sets at about 9:15pm in late June and about 7:00pm in late September, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:50pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. We suggest paellas and extras and send a clear quote.
  3. We agree timings, access and the cooking spot.
  4. On the day, we set up and cook in front of your guests.
  5. It’s served straight from the pan, and we clear our area afterwards.
