Coldharbour questions

Could we have live paella in Mudchute Park and Farm?

Only if the landowner, usually the council, allows it. Check with them, and we’ll provide our paperwork.

We are having a ceremony at All Saints Church: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is normally elsewhere. Tell us where the reception will be.

Should we have more than one paella?

Two or three is usual: meat or mixed, seafood, and vegetable or vegan. We will suggest a split based on your guests.

What happens if it rains?

Rain does not stop us, as long as there is a ventilated cover. We’ll talk it through before the day.

Can you feed a lot of people?

It’s ideal. Big pans feed a lot of people, and service from the pan is quick.

Do you cook it at the event?

Yes, always. We cook from scratch in large pans at your venue, in front of your guests.

What is live paella catering?

We arrive with pans, burners and ingredients, cook while everyone watches, and serve at the time you want.

Can you cook indoors?

Mostly outside or under an open cover, because we use gas burners. We will check whether your venue has a suitable space.

Who books paella catering in Coldharbour?

People book live paella because it’s food and entertainment at once. The cooking becomes the centre of the event, and the food is hot and generous.

These are some of the occasions we cater:

  • Garden parties and summer barbecues
  • Retirement celebrations
  • Anniversaries and engagement parties
  • Milestone birthday parties

Nearby historic houses include Queen's House (1.5 miles south) and Mansion House (3.6 miles west). If your event is at a historic house or estate, check its rules on caterers and cooking early.

Choosing a paella caterer

Should I cook it myself?

You can cook paella for a crowd yourself, but it takes practice. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right at scale is tricky. Our guide to cooking paella for a crowd explains how.

Weighing up DIY against a caterer? Consider your numbers, your guests’ diets and your own time. We are happy to give you a quote to compare.

What happens on the day

The paella is cooked in huge, shallow pans over gas burners. It needs a level spot with some shelter and good ventilation, which we agree with you beforehand. Planning an evening event in Coldharbour? Sunset is around 8:50pm in late May, 9:20pm at midsummer and 7:05pm in late September; once it’s dark, we need light to cook and serve by.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. We suggest paellas and extras and send a clear quote.
  3. Timings, access and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. We cook live on the day while guests watch.
  5. We serve from the pan, then pack down.

Before we arrive

  • Confirm the venue is happy with live cooking
  • Keep the cooking spot clear of fences, hedges and branches
  • Make sure we can park close by to unload

Planning help

What affects the price in Coldharbour

The price comes down to a few factors:

  • Extra courses such as canapés, tapas and dessert
  • The paellas you choose
  • Plates, cutlery and glassware
  • Guest numbers

When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: staff, crockery, sides, travel and VAT. Our quotes spell it all out.

What we need to know

To check availability and price, we need:

  • The address or venue name
  • Expected numbers
  • What the venue already provides
  • A picture of the cooking space, if it is a garden or field

The quickest way to a quote is to fill in our quote form. Give us the details of your event, and we will suggest paellas and extras to suit.

Paella compared with other options

A cold buffet is simple but has no theatre, and food can sit out for a while. Paella is cooked in front of your guests and served hot. Live paella pricing depends on the event. A garden party lunch and a full wedding menu are very different jobs. We itemise everything in your quote.

Why Coldharbour hosts choose us

  • Served hot, straight from the pan
  • Food that becomes part of the entertainment
  • Options for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests, each in its own pan
  • Sangria and bar staff available

Before you choose a spot

Most gardens and venues can host live paella, but there are a few things to check:

  • Level ground for the pans and burners
  • Good ventilation: outdoors, or an open-sided cover
  • Access for unloading near the cooking spot

Coldharbour is in London, within the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and parking can be tight: tell us about parking bays, permits or a driveway.

Not sure about your space? Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.
