Paella catering in Chuck Hatch, made fresh on the day

There’s something generous about paella: giant pans, saffron colour and a toasted crust that everyone fights over. It turns a meal into an occasion. For family celebrations and christenings and company summer parties, we will put together a menu of mixed paella, vegan paella and seafood paella.

Somewhere like Chuck Hatch, a field or garden is frequently the perfect setting. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. Every pan is cooked in front of your guests, so the food is hot, fresh and part of the occasion.

Dishes our guests love

Paella Valenciana

The original paella from Valencia is a countryside dish of chicken and vegetables, not seafood. It is a favourite with guests who do not eat fish.

Vegetable and vegan paella

A slow sofrito, seasonal vegetables and a good vegetable stock make a proper main dish. For vegans, the stock is plant-based.

Planning for every diet

We take diets and allergies seriously. Help us by following these steps:

  • Request clear labels at the serving table
  • Tell us how many children are coming
  • Flag any coeliac guests, not just gluten-free preferences
  • Make sure most guests can sit to eat

A short rest after cooking helps, and that’s when we invite guests up.

Need plates or staff? We can provide them.

What we need at the venue

Most gardens and venues can host live paella, but a few things matter:

  • Parking close enough to carry equipment
  • A level, firm spot for the burners and pans
  • The venue’s permission for live cooking

Not sure about your space? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly.

Why choose live paella in Chuck Hatch?

Next to a hog roast or barbecue, live paella is easier for vegetarian, vegan and halal guests, because each paella has its own pan. Service from the pan keeps queues moving. Tapas, desserts, sangria, staff and crockery are optional extras, so you only pay for what you want.

Why us?

  • Separate pans for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests
  • Add tapas, canapés and Spanish desserts
  • Live cooking, not reheated food
  • Hot food served quickly from the pan

Planners, venues and businesses

Hosting a party at home? Send a photo of the space and tell us about parking, and we’ll let you know if live paella is a good fit.

For larger events, we plan the number of pans and serving points around your timings, so everyone eats promptly. Tell us how long you have for food.

Chuck Hatch questions

What’s the nearest station to Chuck Hatch for guests?

Ashurst Kent station, about 4 miles north-east of the centre.

Can you cook at venues in the High Weald National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules; ask your venue. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

Which paella is most popular?

Most events choose two or three: chicken or mixed, seafood, and vegetable or vegan. See the sample menu.

Who clears up?

We clear our cooking area away when service is finished. Waiting staff can clear tables if you book them.

How does live paella catering work?

We arrive with pans, burners and ingredients, cook while everyone watches, and serve when you are ready to eat.

Do you cater for young children?

Yes. A simple chicken paella is usually popular with children. Tell us how many are coming.

How do you work out quantities?

Pans are sized to your numbers and other courses. Tell us what else is being served. Our guide to portions explains more.

What areas do you cover?

We cover London and the South East, including East Sussex. Find your area.

The process

Expect a friendly, organised team. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up the pans and burners, and cook and serve without fuss. In Chuck Hatch, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so summer evening events are usually served in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. You share your date, numbers and venue.
  2. We plan the menu with you, including every diet.
  3. We arrive in good time to set up.
  4. The paella cooks as guests gather round.
  5. Service is straight from the pan, then we pack down.

Should I cook it myself?

Some hosts like to cook themselves. Common mistakes are mismatched pans and burners, overfilling and stirring. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us cook.

Not sure whether to cook yourself or book a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. Ask us for a quote and compare.
