Planning an event in Birchett's Green?

About our paella catering in Birchett's Green

Watching it cook is part of the experience. Guests gather round as the sofrito sizzles and the saffron colours the rice, and the aroma does the rest. For garden get-togethers and birthday celebrations, we’ll put together a menu of paella Valenciana, mixed paella and vegetable paella for your guests.

Somewhere as small as Birchett's Green, a garden or field is frequently the venue. Country lanes and long drives are no problem if we know about them, and a firm spot near where we park makes set-up easier. Everything is cooked from scratch at your event, not reheated, and served the moment it’s ready.

Questions from Birchett's Green

Do you cater in the High Weald National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules; ask your venue. We will follow the site rules.

Which station should guests use for Birchett's Green?

Stonegate station, about 2.6 miles south of the centre.

Is paella enough as a main?

It can be. With bread and salad, paella is a complete main, and tapas or dessert can be added.

Is the paella gluten-free?

Yes, on request. The rice is gluten-free, but stocks and chorizo can contain gluten, so we make a separate gluten-free pan.

Can you cater for vegetarians and vegans?

Yes, and meat eaters often go back for seconds. Each is cooked separately, with its own stock and utensils.

When should we book?

As soon as you have a date. Peak dates go quickly, so it pays to ask early.

Do you cook it at the event?

It is. We arrive with everything we need and cook it there and then, then serve straight from the pan.

Can you cater for children?

Children are welcome. Let us know numbers and ages, and we’ll plan a pan with them in mind.

Prices and what affects them

Each event is quoted on its own, based on a few main things:

  • The paellas you choose
  • How long we’re needed on site
  • The number of people
  • How many staff you need

Got a budget? Let us know, and we’ll put together a menu that fits. A simple menu can still feel generous.

Getting an accurate quote

The more we know about your event, the better we can plan. Please include:

  • The courses you’d like
  • A photo of the space, if you can
  • Approximate guest numbers, including children
  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff

Every quote is put together for your event. Tell us your date and guest numbers, and we will confirm whether we are available that day.

Dietary needs and planning tips

We cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests. To get it right:

  • Tell us about coeliac guests specifically
  • Count adults and children separately
  • Make sure most guests can sit to eat
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations

Paella is best eaten as soon as it is ready, so we plan service for when guests are ready to eat.

Need plates or staff? We can provide them.

Dishes our guests love

Mixed paella

Mixed paella brings meat and seafood together.

Paella Valenciana

Valencians take their paella seriously. The classic version is chicken, green beans and butter beans with saffron, and it is a crowd-pleaser.

Before you choose a spot

Most gardens and venues can host live paella, but there are a few things to check:

  • Clearance from fences, hedges, branches and anything flammable
  • The venue’s permission for live cooking
  • Level ground for the pans and burners

Not sure about your space? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly before booking.

The process

When we arrive, we set up our cooking area, light the burners and start the sofrito. The rice goes in about 20 minutes before serving, so the timing is planned around your event. Evenings in Birchett's Green stay light until about 9:15pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:00pm; after dark, the cooking and serving areas need good lighting.

  1. First, you send us your date, venue, numbers and diets.
  2. You get a suggested menu and an itemised quote.
  3. We arrive early, set up the cooking area and start the stock.
  4. The rice cooks in full view, while tapas or canapés go round.
  5. We serve from the pan, then clear our cooking area away.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure we can park close by to unload
  • Ensure the spot is clear of anything flammable
  • Give us your final numbers and diets

A cold buffet is simple but has no theatre, and the food sits out. Paella is cooked in front of your guests and served hot. There’s no one-size-fits-all price for live paella. A simple paella lunch costs less than a wedding with canapés, three paellas and waiting staff. We itemise everything in your quote.
