About our paella catering in Beacon's Bottom

Paella has always been food for a crowd: cooked in the open in a big, shallow pan and shared straight from it. That’s what we bring to events in Beacon's Bottom. Popular choices include seafood paella, vegan paella and vegetable paella, and we are regularly asked to cater retirement celebrations and birthday celebrations.

In a rural place like Beacon's Bottom, the setting does plenty of the work: a paella cooking in a garden or field feels right at home. Let us know about access and ground conditions. Tapas, canapés, desserts, sangria and staff can all be added, so the whole menu comes from one caterer.

How it works

We cook over gas burners in wide, shallow pans. It needs a level spot with some shelter and good ventilation, which we agree with you beforehand. Around midsummer it stays light in Beacon's Bottom until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening events are usually served in daylight. For winter events, when it is dark by about 3:55pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. You tell us the date, venue, guest numbers and any dietary needs.
  2. We put together a menu and a clear quote.
  3. We arrive early, set up the cooking area and start the stock.
  4. The rice cooks in full view, while tapas or canapés go round.
  5. We serve it hot from the pan and clear our area when service ends.

Getting ready for the day

DIY paella versus live catering

Cooking it yourself? Test your pan and burner first, keep the stock hot, and leave the rice alone once it is in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

Plenty of people try cooking paella for their own party. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the cooking.

Planning the cooking area

We cook in large pans over gas burners, so the cooking area needs a little planning. These are the things we check:

  • The venue’s permission for live cooking
  • Level ground for the pans and burners
  • A safe distance from anything that could catch

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.
