Paella catering for Akeley events
Paella catering for your event in Akeley
A single cooking set-up can feed a crowd, very little goes to waste, and the food arrives hot. That’s why it works for so many events. Whether it’s retirement celebrations and staff parties and work lunches, we’ll put together a menu of seafood paella, paella Valenciana and black rice.
In a small place like Akeley, events are typically in a garden, a field or a nearby hall. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives and we’ll plan for them, and cooking close to where we can park helps. Every pan is cooked in front of your guests, so it arrives hot and becomes part of the event.

Questions from Akeley
Can you cater a reception after a service at Church of St Mary (Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary)?
Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is normally elsewhere. Tell us where the reception will be.
Do you come out to small places like Akeley?
Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and parking.
Can we add tapas or canapés?
Yes, it’s the classic pairing. Tapas go out first, then the paella.
Can you cook indoors?
Indoors only where ventilation and the venue allow it. Courtyards, doorways and terraces frequently work.
Is paella a full meal?
Paella is a meal in itself. Tapas and desserts can be added if you like.
Do you bring everything you need?
We bring the pans, burners and ingredients. You provide a suitable spot and access.
Will there be enough food?
We plan quantities from your guest numbers, timings and other courses, with a sensible margin. Give us accurate numbers for the best result.
Does paella work for big events?
Yes, that is what it is made for. We size pans and serving points to your guest list.
Cook it yourself or book a caterer?
You can cook paella for a crowd yourself, but it takes practice. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.
If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, have hot stock ready, and leave the rice alone once it’s in. And keep children and pets well away from the burner.
Planning for every diet
A little planning makes sure everyone can eat. Here’s how:
- Give us separate numbers for children
- Tell us about coeliac guests specifically
- Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down
- Mention any other courses or food
After service, we pack down our cooking area.
Crockery, cutlery and waiting staff are available if your venue doesn’t provide them.
How the day works
Service is quick: we serve straight from the pan, so even a long queue moves. Afterwards we clear our cooking area away. In Akeley, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.
- Get in touch with the basics: when, where and how many.
- We come back with paellas to suit your guests, plus any extras.
- A week or so before, we confirm the plan.
- On the day we cook live, timed around your event.
- Guests are served from the pan, and our area is cleared afterwards.
Getting ready for the day
- Have a gazebo or cover ready if rain is likely
- Send us final numbers and dietary needs in good time
- Let us know the timings for the day

The menu, dish by dish
Seafood paella
Seafood paella starts with a good fish and shellfish stock. The shellfish is added late so it stays tender.
Paella Valenciana
In Valencia, the recipe is fiercely debated. The classic version is chicken, green beans and butter beans with saffron, and it’s a crowd-pleaser.
