DIY paella versus live catering

Weighing up DIY against a caterer? Consider your numbers, your guests’ diets and your own time. Ask us for a quote and compare.

Plenty of people try cooking paella for their own party. Common mistakes are mismatched pans and burners, overfilling and stirring. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us cook.

Running an event in Hill Head

Hill Head is about 3 miles south-west of Fareham, in Hampshire. Anywhere in PO14, we can cook for your guests. We cater in all 683 towns and villages in Hampshire, from the larger towns to small villages. We cook right across the region, from Hill Head to Southampton (about 10 miles away).

School fairs, for a school like Crofton Hammond Infant School, are a natural fit for a paella stall. For a church fête or fundraiser, at a church such as Holy Rood Church, a paella stall adds a hot meal to the cakes and tombola. The coast is within about 5 miles of Hill Head, so for seaside events we plan a sheltered pitch.

For festival paella catering in PO14, we plan around your venue and your guests. Whether your event is on Elsfred Road, Osborne View Road and Cottes Way or anywhere nearby, we can cook there. • Trader information and site rules

Working with your venue

Organising a club, school or community event in Hill Head? Live paella feeds a crowd quickly and suits most diets. Tell us about the event and we’ll suggest a menu.

If you are organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a festival organiser, we’ll work directly with you and the venue. It keeps things simple.

Prices and what affects them

These are the factors that matter most:

  • Whether you need crockery
  • Extra courses such as canapés, tapas and dessert
  • Timings and hours
  • Parking and unloading

Seafood and premium ingredients cost more than chicken or vegetable paellas, so your choice of paellas affects the total. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest a menu.

Details that help

Good planning starts with a few facts. Please include:

  • Where the event is
  • The date and rough timings
  • Approximate guest numbers, including children
  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff

Not sure what you need yet? That’s fine: tell us about the occasion and the guests, and we will make suggestions. Start when you are ready: fill in our quote form.

What’s the nearest station to Hill Head for guests?

Fareham station, about 2.9 miles north-east of the centre.

What about pudding?

Yes, Spanish desserts can be added. Tell us what you have in mind in your enquiry.

What areas do you cover?

We cater across London and the South East, Hampshire included. See all areas.

When should we book?

Early, particularly for summer Saturdays. Even if it’s short notice, it is worth asking.

Can you handle a lunchtime rush?

Service from the pan is fast, ideal for peak times.

What if the weather’s bad?

We need a covered spot, such as a gazebo, marquee or open-sided barn with good ventilation. We will agree a wet-weather plan with you.

Will you have a stall at our event?

Tell us about your event, and we will confirm availability and requirements.

Planning for every diet

Allergies and diets are taken seriously. Here’s how you can help:

  • Agree waste arrangements with traders
  • Make allergen information visible at every stall
  • Provide seating near the food
  • Schedule crew meals

We set up at the agreed time, following your trader pack.

Vegan paella alongside the rest.

How the day works

When we arrive, we set up the burners and pans and start cooking the sofrito and stock. The rice goes in about 20 minutes before serving, so the timing is planned around your event. Summer events in Hill Head have daylight until about 9:20pm at midsummer and about 7:10pm by late September, so evening trading typically finishes in daylight in high summer. For winter markets, dark by about 4:00pm, the pitch needs lighting.

  1. Tell us about the event and pitch.
  2. We send our menu, needs and paperwork.
  3. We arrive and set up at the agreed time.
  4. We cook in full view and serve all event.
  5. We pack down and tidy the pitch.

Before we arrive

  • Have a gazebo or cover ready if rain is likely
  • Leave space around the cooking area
  • Tell us when you want to eat
