How to compare caterers

How our wedding paella catering works in Northney

Evening paella is a favourite: it is hot, filling and quick to serve, so evening guests are fed and the dancing carries on. Whether it is weddings with mixed diets and garden and marquee weddings, we can cook evening paella, Spanish desserts and canapé tapas for your guests.

Rural weddings around Northney have a magic of their own, and an open-air paella adds to it. Plan access and cover in case of rain. We serve straight from the pan, so it’s hot and generous, and a queue moves quickly.

Planning the cooking area

We cook in large pans over gas burners, so the cooking area needs a little planning. Here’s what we look for:

  • Outdoor space or a ventilated gazebo
  • Space well away from trees, fences and gazebo walls
  • Flat, firm ground for the cooking area

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and we will say what we think.

What we offer

  • Dessert
  • Sangria & bar staff
  • Paella wedding breakfast

Getting married in Northney?

Northney is about 3 miles south-east of Havant, in Hampshire. Whether your wedding is in the middle of Northney or on the outskirts, we offer the same service: live cooking, separate pans for every diet and a clear price. Northney is one of 683 towns and villages in Hampshire where we cook. We cook right across the region, from Northney to Southampton (20 miles away).

Couples marrying at local churches such as Church of St Peter often hold the reception nearby: the paella can be cooking while you have photos taken, so the meal is ready when you arrive. If you’re hoping for photos in Eames Farm, check whether the park needs permission for photography or gatherings. With the coast within about 4 miles, a seafood paella suits a seaside-style wedding. We’ll plan shelter from sea breezes.

For wedding paella catering in PO11, we plan around your venue. That could mean a wedding in a garden on Northney Lane, Spinnaker Grange and Northney Road. Working with your venue

Hosting a party at home? Send us a picture of the garden and tell us about access, and we’ll tell you honestly whether live paella will work.

Many venues have rules for outside caterers: where cooking is allowed, access times and the paperwork they need. Tell us what your venue needs and we’ll work to it.

How the day works

When we arrive, we set up our cooking area, light the burners and start the sofrito. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, so the timing is planned around your event. In Northney, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:05pm, which means evening paella is normally served in daylight in June and July. For autumn and winter weddings, when it is dark by about 4:00pm in December, plan lighting for the cooking area.

  1. First, we check your date.
  2. You pick the courses and dishes.
  3. We confirm everything with your venue.
  4. Guests watch the paella cook during the reception.
  5. We serve, then pack down.

How to prepare

  • Have a gazebo or cover ready if rain is likely
  • Give us a contact for the day
  • Choose a level spot for the cooking area

FAQs for Northney

We are having a ceremony at Church of St Peter: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is generally elsewhere. Tell us where the reception will be.

Is Northney too small for live paella?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and parking.

Can you cook halal paella?

Yes, we do. We use halal chicken and leave out pork and alcohol, in a separate pan.

When do you arrive?

It depends on the menu and numbers. We will agree arrival, cooking and serving times with you.

What happens if it rains?

Rain does not stop us, as long as there’s a ventilated cover. We’ll talk it through before the day.

When should we book?

As early as you can, especially for summer weekends. Even if it is short notice, it is worth asking.

Can we try the food first?

Ask us when you enquire and we’ll explain the options.

Do you work with our venue?

Yes. We’re happy to talk to your venue about access, timings and requirements.

How we price wedding paella catering

There are no hidden charges: the quote reflects:

  • Waiting and bar staff
  • Chicken, vegetable or premium seafood
  • The length of service
  • How many guests are eating

There’s no one-size-fits-all price for live paella. A garden party lunch and a full wedding menu are very different jobs. We itemise everything in your quote.

What we need to know

For a quote, it helps to have:

  • Roughly how many adults and children
  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff
  • Whether you want canapés, tapas or desserts
  • Diets and allergies you know about

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote: the venue, the timings, the courses you’d like and any extras. When you’re ready, use our quote form.

Should I cook it myself?

Cooking it yourself? Test your pan and burner first, have hot stock ready, and leave the rice alone once it is in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

Cooking paella for a crowd yourself is possible, but it’s harder than it looks. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right at scale is tricky. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.

Is live paella right for your wedding?

Live paella is less formal than a plated meal, but with canapés, table tapas and good crockery, it still feels special. The price depends on your guest numbers, the menu and how many courses you choose, along with staff, extras and travel. We quote for each event individually.
