Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

You can hire equipment and do it yourself, but there’s shopping, prep and hours of cooking. We take care of all of it.

You can cook paella for a crowd yourself, but it takes practice. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.

How the day works

When we arrive, we set up the burners and pans and start cooking the sofrito and stock. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, so we time everything to your schedule. For a summer wedding in Marchwood, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, which means evening paella is usually served in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 4:00pm.

  1. We check availability for your date.
  2. You choose canapés, tapas, paellas and desserts.
  3. We confirm the plan with your coordinator.
  4. The pans cook while guests enjoy the drinks.
  5. We serve and clear our cooking area.

Planning for every diet

With a little notice, every diet is easy. Our advice:

  • Tell us about suppliers who need feeding
  • Ask about diets and allergies with your RSVPs
  • Confirm the venue’s catering rules early
  • Introduce us to your venue coordinator

We normally set up where guests can watch, and it makes a great photo.

Sangria and bar staff can be added.

Prices and what affects them

The price comes down to a few factors:

  • Parking and unloading
  • How many staff you need
  • Plates, cutlery and glassware
  • Extra courses such as canapés, tapas and dessert

If you have a budget in mind, tell us, and we will suggest a menu to match. A simple menu can still feel generous.

What we need to know

These details help us quote quickly:

  • What the venue already provides
  • Expected numbers
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • The date and time of the event

Send us the date, your venue or SO40 postcode and guest numbers, along with any dietary needs, and you’ll get a menu idea and a price. To get started, use our quote form.
