Wedding paella catering near Elsted

About our wedding paella catering in Elsted

At a wedding, paella is both the meal and a bit of a show. Guests wander over to watch while the photos are taken, and the food arrives hot and plentiful. We are often asked to cater vow renewals and civil ceremonies and barn and farm weddings, serving table tapas, a paella wedding breakfast and evening paella.

Rural weddings around Elsted have a magic of their own, and an open-air paella adds to it. Plan for access and a wet-weather cover. You can add tapas, desserts, sangria, bar staff and waiting staff, so one booking can cover the whole menu.

Paella compared with other options

Live paella is less formal than a plated meal, but with the right extras it feels just as special. Larger events typically cost less per head, because the cooking set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Give us your numbers and we’ll quote.

Planning the cooking area

No two venues are the same, so we ask about the space when you contact us. Generally, we look for:

  • Good ventilation: outdoors, or an open-sided cover
  • Parking close enough to carry equipment
  • A cooking spot outside the marquee, not inside it

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

Hiring a pan and burner is one option, but there is shopping, prep and hours of cooking. A caterer handles all of that.

A DIY paella party works for small groups. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, and handles separate pans for each diet.

FAQs for Elsted

Is Elsted too small for live paella?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and parking.

We are having a ceremony at The Parish Church of St Paul: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Live cooking generally happens at the reception venue, not the church. Send us the reception address.

Can you supply plates?

We can. Tell us what your venue provides and we will include the rest in the quote.

Do you cater for coeliacs?

We can cook a gluten-free paella in its own pan. Let us know about coeliac guests in advance so we take the right care.

Can you cater for vegetarians and vegans?

Of course. We cook vegetarian and vegan paellas in their own pans.

Is paella smart enough for a wedding?

It can be dressed up or kept relaxed, depending on presentation and service.

Can we have a tasting?

Tell us you’d like a tasting when you enquire, and we will talk you through it.

When do you arrive?

It depends on the menu and numbers. We will agree arrival, cooking and serving times with you so the paella is ready when you want it.

The process

When we arrive, we set up the burners and pans and start cooking the sofrito and stock. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, so we time everything to your schedule. In Elsted, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:05pm, so an evening paella for evening guests is normally served in daylight in high summer. For autumn and winter weddings, when it’s dark by about 4:00pm in December, plan lighting for the cooking area.

  1. We check availability for your date.
  2. You pick the courses and dishes.
  3. We confirm the plan with your coordinator.
  4. The pans cook while guests enjoy the drinks.
  5. We serve and clear our cooking area.

Before we arrive

  • Name one person we can ask on the day
  • Get the venue’s permission for cooking
  • Keep the cooking spot clear of fences, hedges and branches

Catering for every guest

Paella is one of the easiest dishes for mixed diets, because each paella is cooked in its own pan. Here are a few tips for planning:

  • Share your running order, including speeches
  • Collect dietary needs on the RSVP
  • Choose pan-side or table service
  • Give us separate day and evening numbers

If things run late, and we will adjust the cooking so it is still served fresh.

Table tapas make a sociable starter.

Working with your venue

Wedding planners and venue coordinators are welcome to contact us directly, and we’ll keep everyone informed on the day.

If you are planning an event on someone’s behalf, whether you are a planner, an office manager or an event organiser, we will work directly with you and the venue. It saves passing messages back and forth.

How we price wedding paella catering

Each event is quoted on its own, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Timings and hours
  • The number of people
  • Crockery and cutlery, or disposables
  • How many staff you need

Compared with a plated meal, live paella is often good value, because it needs no kitchen and fewer staff. We’ll send you a quote.

Getting an accurate quote

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what’s useful:

  • Your date and when you want to eat
  • The address or venue name
  • Whether you want canapés, tapas or desserts
  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff

A detailed enquiry gets a more accurate quote: the venue, the timings, the courses you’d like and any extras. When you’re ready, fill in our quote form.
