Mockbeggar: your questions answered

How far is Mockbeggar from London?

Roughly 26 miles from the centre of London.

Is Mockbeggar too small for live paella?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and parking.

What happens if it rains?

We need a covered spot, like a gazebo or open-sided marquee. We plan for rain with you in advance.

Do you cater for vegetarian guests?

Yes, and they’re popular with everyone. They have their own pans, stock and spoons.

How many different paellas?

Two or three is usual: meat or mixed, seafood, and vegetable or vegan. We will suggest a split based on your guests.

Can you do sangria?

Sangria and bar staff can be added.

Is halal food available?

We can. Tell us how many guests need halal food, and it’s cooked separately.

Who clears up?

We clear our cooking area away when service is finished. Waiting staff can clear tables if you book them.

How to compare caterers

Should I cook it myself?

Not sure whether to cook yourself or book a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. Ask us for a quote and compare.

You can cook paella for a crowd yourself, but it takes practice. Large pans need the right burners, and getting the rice right at scale is tricky. Our guide to cooking paella for a crowd explains how.

How we price tapas catering

These are the factors that matter most:

  • Chicken, vegetable or premium seafood
  • How long we are needed on site
  • How many guests are eating
  • Crockery and cutlery, or disposables

Got a budget? Let us know, and we will suggest a menu to match. Even a simple menu can be a feast.

What we need to know

These details help us quote quickly:

  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff
  • The date and time of the event
  • The courses you’d like
  • The venue or postcode

Why choose live paella in Mockbeggar?

Standard canapés can feel samey. Tapas bring something different. The cost per head generally falls as numbers rise, because the cooking set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Give us your numbers and we’ll quote.

Why book with us

  • Crockery and waiting staff if you need them
  • Sangria, plus bar staff for your own drinks
  • Food that becomes part of the entertainment
  • We cover Mockbeggar and the whole of Medway

See Our pricing Or Our guide to catering costs.

The process

Once the rice is in, we don’t stir it. That’s how the grains cook evenly and the toasted base, the socarrat, forms. Your guests will smell it before they see it. At midsummer, it’s light in Mockbeggar until about 9:20pm, ideal for tapas in the garden. In late September, sunset is about 7:00pm; winter receptions, dark by 3:50pm, are better indoors.

  1. Tell us the date, venue and numbers.
  2. You get a selection and a price.
  3. We set up and finish hot tapas on site.
  4. Canapés go round or tapas go to the tables.
  5. We pack down when service ends.

Getting ready for the day

  • Name one person we can ask on the day
