Tapas catering in Catmore, cooked live

Plenty of tapas are vegetarian, like tortilla and padrón peppers, and several can be made gluten-free. We cook Manchego with membrillo, tortilla española and croquetas, and we are frequently booked for sharing tapas starters and work receptions.

In a rural spot like Catmore, tapas can be served in a garden, barn or marquee. Each paella is cooked from scratch on the day, never made in advance and reheated.

Planning the cooking area

Every venue is different, so we ask about the space before we confirm. Generally, we look for:

  • Access to unload near the serving area
  • Room for a tapas table
  • An area to prepare hot tapas

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before you book.

Catmore questions

Do you cater in the North Wessex Downs National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles, ground and cooking, so check with yours. We will work to whatever the site needs.

How far is Catmore from London?

About 54 miles from central London.

How much space do you need?

Not a lot: a level spot clear of fences, hedges and branches, with room for a serving table. Send us a picture if you’re not sure.

When should we book?

Early, particularly for summer Saturdays. Ask about your date even if it’s soon.

How do you work out quantities?

Quantities depend on numbers, timing and courses, with a little extra built in. Give us accurate numbers for the best result.

Do you do vegan paella?

Yes. We cook vegetarian and vegan paellas in their own pans.

Is the paella gluten-free?

We can, if you tell us in advance. Rice is naturally gluten-free, but stock and some ingredients may not be, so we cook a gluten-free paella separately.

Is halal food available?

Yes. We use halal chicken and leave out pork and alcohol, in its own pan.

The menu, dish by dish

Croquetas

Crisp outside, creamy inside, often with ham or mushroom.

Tortilla española

A thick potato and egg omelette served in wedges or squares.

How the day works

The paella is cooked in giant, shallow pans over gas burners. We need a level, ventilated spot, which we agree with you beforehand. A summer drinks reception in Catmore has daylight until about 9:25pm at midsummer, perfect for canapés outdoors. In late September, sunset is about 7:10pm; winter receptions, dark by 4:00pm, are better indoors.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and how you want the tapas served.
  2. You get a suggested selection and a price.
  3. We arrive, set up and finish hot dishes on site.
  4. Canapés circulate with drinks, or tapas go to the tables.
  5. Afterwards, our equipment is cleared away.

Getting ready for the day

  • Plan cover in case of rain
  • Arrange parking near the cooking spot
  • Confirm the venue is happy with live cooking

Planning help

Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

Weighing up DIY against a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. Ask us for a quote and compare.

Cooking paella for a crowd yourself is possible, but it’s harder than it looks. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Our guide to cooking paella for a crowd explains how.

Working with your venue

Organising a club, school or community event in Catmore? Live paella feeds a crowd quickly and suits most diets. Give us the details and we’ll suggest a plan.

For larger events, we plan the number of pans and serving points around your timings, so guests are fed quickly. Let us know how long the food break is.
