Our paella catering in RH4
Everything is cooked from scratch on site, beginning with a sofrito of onion, garlic, peppers and tomato, followed by stock, saffron and rice. We are frequently asked to cater anniversaries and engagement parties and community events and fairs, serving mixed paella, seafood paella and vegetable paella.
When we arrive, we set up the burners and pans and start cooking the sofrito and stock. The rice goes in about 20 minutes before serving, so the timing is planned around your event.
- First, you send us your date, venue, numbers and diets.
- We suggest a menu and confirm a quote, including what’s included.
- We arrive early, set up the cooking area and start the stock.
- Your guests watch the paella cook, with any tapas served first.
- We serve it hot from the pan and clear our area when service ends.
What it costs in RH4
Premium seafood costs more than chicken or vegetables, so the menu you choose affects the price. Tell us your budget and we will suggest a menu.

Planning live paella in RH4
There are 3 towns and 2 villages and hamlets in RH4, so whether your event is in Dorking, North Holmwood and Westcott or a quiet village, the approach is the same: a level, ventilated spot and a clear plan. The Surrey Hills National Landscape is within easy reach of places across RH4, where some venues have extra rules about vehicles and cooking.
Dorking: If you’re organising a summer fair for a school like St Paul's CofE (Aided) Primary School, a paella stall is a crowd-pleaser. For guests coming by train, the nearest station is Dorking Deepdene station, about 0.6 miles north. Around midsummer it stays light in Dorking until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening events are typically served in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.
Diets, allergies and planning
With a little notice, every diet is easy. Our advice:
- Count adults and children separately
- Ask for labels on each pan
- Add a dietary question to your invitations
- Send allergies to us in writing
Let the paella rest for a few minutes before serving, and that is when we invite guests up.
Need plates or staff? We can provide them.
Prices and what affects them
We’ll give you a clear, itemised quote. What affects it most:
- Timings and hours
- Guest numbers
- Waiting and bar staff
- Plates, cutlery and glassware
The cost per head usually falls as numbers rise, since the set-up is much the same either way. Give us your numbers and we’ll quote.
Getting an accurate quote
You do not need everything decided to ask for a quote, but these help:
- Any dietary needs and allergies
- A picture of where we’d cook
- Where the event is
- The courses you’d like

Space, weather and the venue
We will agree the cooking spot with you before the day. A good spot ticks these boxes:
- Clearance from fences, hedges, branches and anything flammable
- Open air or a well-ventilated covered spot
- Somewhere close to park and unload
RH4 questions
Do you do starters?
Yes. Canapé tapas with the drinks, or table tapas to share, served while the paella cooks.
Do you take everything away?
We pack down our cooking area after service. Waiting staff can clear tables if you book them.
How does live paella catering work?
We bring everything needed to cook on site, cook in front of your guests, and serve at the time you want.
Can the paella be cooked in a hall?
Generally we cook outdoors or under a ventilated cover, because we use gas burners. Some venues have suitable spaces; we’ll check with you and the venue.
Can you serve drinks?
Sangria, yes. We can also supply bar staff for your own drinks.
Do we need to provide equipment?
We bring the pans, burners and ingredients. You provide a suitable spot and access.
How much paella per person?
Pans are sized to your numbers and other courses. Tell us what else is being served. Our guide to portions explains more.
- Cooked live in giant pans at your event
- Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal options
- Paella, tapas, canapés and desserts
- Sangria, bar staff, crockery and waiting staff
