Should I cook it myself?

Cooking it yourself? Test your pan and burner first, keep the stock hot, and don’t stir once the rice goes in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

Cooking paella for a crowd yourself is possible, but it is harder than it looks. Large pans need the right burners, and getting the rice right at scale is tricky. Our guide to cooking paella for a crowd explains how.

What’s in the pans

Churros

All ages love churros.

Tapas

Patatas bravas, tortilla, croquetas and olives while the paella cooks.

Live paella or other catering?

Unlike a barbecue, paella is ready at once, so everyone eats together. And nobody is stuck at the grill. The price depends on your guest numbers, the menu and how many courses you choose, plus any staff, crockery and travel. Every event gets its own quote.

Why choose Love Paella in Seal

How the day works

The cooking is part of the entertainment. We start with the sofrito, add the stock and saffron, then spread the rice across the pan and leave it alone to cook. For a late-May party in Seal, sunset is around 8:50pm; at midsummer it’s about 9:20pm. If the party runs past dark, we’ll need light where we cook and serve.

  1. We check your date and the space.
  2. You choose your paellas and any extras.
  3. We set up the burners and start the sofrito.
  4. The rice goes in and your guests gather round.
  5. We serve hot and tidy our area afterwards.

Preparing for the day

  • Confirm the venue is happy with live cooking
  • Keep the cooking spot clear of fences, hedges and branches
  • Arrange a covered spot for wet weather

Seal: your questions answered

Do you cater in the Kent Downs National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules; ask your venue. We will follow the site rules.

Can you cook in Kemsing Down?

Only if the landowner, typically the council, allows it. Ask them first, and we will send any information they need.

How far in advance should we book?

The sooner the better, but it is always worth asking. We will check availability right away.

Can you cater for vegetarians and vegans?

Yes, and they’re popular with everyone. Each is cooked separately, with its own stock and utensils.

How long do you need on site?

We get there in good time to set up. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, timed around your event.

How do you work out quantities?

We size the pans for your numbers and the rest of the menu. Let us know about any other food. Our guide to portions explains more.

Is paella OK for kids?

Paella is popular with children, especially a mild chicken one. Let us know numbers and ages.

Can you supply plates?

We can. Tell us what your venue provides and we will include the rest in the quote.

Planning for every diet

We cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests. To get it right:

  • Plan where rubbish goes
  • Count adults and children separately
  • Make sure most people can sit to eat
  • Give the neighbours a heads-up

After service, we pack down, so the party carries on.

Bread, salad and lemon wedges round off the meal.

Seal parties: what to know

Seal is about 2 miles north-east of Sevenoaks, in Kent. Whether your party is in the middle of Seal or on the outskirts, paella party catering works the same way: paella cooked live, every diet catered for and a clear quote. Seal is one of 922 towns and villages in Kent we cover. Our nearest city page is London, about 20 miles away.

Historic houses near Seal include Knole House (1.8 miles south) and Ightham Mote (3.1 miles south-east). Seal is within about 4 miles of the Kent Downs National Landscape, so many gardens around here have a great outlook.

We cook at parties all over TN15. Streets in the area include High Street, Church Road and Jubilee Rise, and we can cook for a party on any of them. • Outdoor space or a ventilated gazebo
  • Confirmation that open cooking is allowed
  • A safe distance from anything that could catch

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.
