Saltwood is about 1 mile north of Hythe, in Kent. Across the CT21 area, we can cook for your guests. We cover all 922 towns and villages across Kent. We cook right across the region, from Saltwood to Canterbury (14 miles away).
For guests coming by train, Sandling station is about 0.9 miles away. Historic houses near Saltwood include Westenhanger Castle (2.2 miles north-west) and Acrise Place (4.6 miles north-east). If you are hiring a historic venue for a big birthday, check its rules on outside caterers first. Saltwood is within about 6 miles of the Kent Downs National Landscape, so many gardens around here have a great outlook. Near the coast, within about a mile, seafood paella is a natural choice, with shelter from the breeze planned in.
Paella party catering in CT21 is planned around your venue. Local streets include Old Saltwood Lane, The Green and Bartholomew Lane; a party at home on any of them works well with live paella. Paella compared with other options
Home-made buffets take ages and sit out for hours. Paella is cooked fresh and served hot. Tapas, desserts, sangria, staff and crockery are optional extras, so you only pay for what you want.
Why book with us
- Options for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests, each in its own pan
- We cover Saltwood and the whole of Kent
- Add tapas, canapés and Spanish desserts
- Live cooking, not reheated food
Planning for every diet
Allergies and diets are taken seriously. Here’s how you can help:
- Count adults and children separately
- Have cover ready for a shower
- Plan seats for most guests
- Add a diet question to the invitation
Booked staff help serve and clear.
Add bread, salad and lemon.
Planning the cooking area
Live paella is cooked over gas burners in large pans, so the cooking area needs a little planning. Here’s what we look for:
- Space well away from trees, fences and gazebo walls
- A picture of the garden helps us check the space
- A level, firm spot for the burners and pans
If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before you book.

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?
For a small group, cooking yourself can work well. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, and keeps vegetarian and allergy-safe pans separate.
Cooking paella for a crowd yourself is possible, but it is harder than it looks. Large pans need the right burners, and getting the rice right at scale is tricky. Our guide to cooking paella for a crowd explains how.
What affects the price in Saltwood
These are the factors that matter most:
- Distance and access to the venue
- Extra courses such as canapés, tapas and dessert
- Staff: cooks, waiting staff and bar staff
- Whether you need crockery
Travel, parking and access can affect the price, so tell us about the venue when you ask for a quote. Everything is confirmed in writing.
What we need to know
When you contact us, it helps to tell us:
- The date and rough timings
- Where the event is
- Approximate guest numbers, including children
- Which courses you have in mind
It is easy to get a price: tell us the date, place, numbers and any dietary needs. We will come back with a clear quote and a suggested menu.
Saltwood: your questions answered
Do you cater in the Kent Downs National Landscape?
Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles, ground and cooking, so check with yours. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.
We are having a ceremony at Church of St Peter and St Paul: can you cater afterwards?
Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is normally elsewhere. Tell us where the reception will be.
Do you cover Saltwood?
Yes. We cover London and the South East, and Saltwood is within our area. For a quote, send us your details through our quote form.
How do you work out quantities?
Pans are sized to your numbers and other courses. Let us know about any other food. Our guide to portions explains more.
Can you do a kids’ option?
Paella is popular with children, especially a mild chicken one. Let us know numbers and ages.
When do you arrive?
It depends on the menu and numbers. We’ll agree arrival, cooking and serving times with you so the paella is ready when you want it.
Is halal food available?
We can. Let us know your halal numbers, and it is cooked separately.
What space do you need to cook?
Less than you might think: a level spot clear of fences, hedges and branches, with room for a serving table. If in doubt, send a photo.
How the day works
When the rice goes in, it is left alone. That is what gives paella its separate grains and crispy base. Your guests will smell it before they see it. Sunset in Saltwood is about 8:45pm in late May and 9:15pm in late June. If the party runs past dark, we’ll need light where we cook and serve.
- Send us your date, address and numbers.
- You get a menu and a quote.
- We set up before guests arrive.
- Guests watch the paella cook.
- We serve, then clear our area.
Preparing for the day
- Let us know the timings for the day
- Confirm numbers and diets before the day
- Make sure the spot is clear of anything flammable
