The process

From set-up to serving, we look after the food, so you’re free to enjoy your party. If you’ve chosen tapas or canapés, they go out first while the paella cooks. For a late-May party in Ifield, sunset is around 8:50pm; at midsummer it’s about 9:20pm. After dark, the cooking area needs good lighting.

  1. Send us the date, the address, numbers and diets.
  2. We suggest paellas and extras and send a quote.
  3. We arrive, set up in your garden or venue and start the sofrito.
  4. Guests gather round as it cooks, nibbling tapas if you’ve booked them.
  5. It is served from the pan, and we clear our area afterwards.

Before we arrive

Planning help

For planners, venues and organisers

Throwing a party at home? Send us a photo of the garden and tell us about access, and we’ll tell you honestly whether live paella will work.

Events in public spaces, like parks, usually need permission. We’ll provide any information the landowner or council asks for.

Ifield questions

How far is Ifield from London?

Roughly 26 miles from the centre of London.

Can you cook at venues in the Surrey Hills National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules; ask your venue. We will work to whatever the site needs.

How much space do you need?

Level ground for the burners, pans and a table, in the open air or a ventilated covered area, plus the venue’s agreement to cooking.

Can you cook in the rain?

We need a covered spot, like a gazebo or open-sided marquee. We’ll agree a wet-weather plan with you.

Do you have a kids’ option?

Of course. A simple chicken paella is normally popular with children. Tell us how many are coming.

Is the paella gluten-free?

Yes, on request. Rice is naturally gluten-free, but stock and some ingredients may not be, so we make a separate gluten-free pan.

Do you come to Ifield?

Yes. We cater across London and the South East, and Ifield is within our area and the rest of West Sussex. To check your date, send us your details through our quote form.

Can you serve drinks?

Sangria can be added, and provide bar staff to serve drinks you supply.

Why choose live paella in Ifield?

A buffet takes hours to prepare and leaves food sitting out. Paella is cooked fresh and served hot. Extras such as tapas, desserts, sangria, staff and crockery are priced separately, so you can choose exactly what you need.

Why choose Love Paella in Ifield

  • Drinks service on request
  • Starters and desserts to complete the menu
  • Crockery and waiting staff if you need them
  • Served hot, straight from the pan

Diets, allergies and planning

Allergies and diets are taken seriously. Here’s how you can help:

  • Have bins ready
  • Collect dietary needs with your invites
  • Count adults and children separately
  • Warn the neighbours

We keep the cooking area tidy and safe, with a clear space around the burners.

Bread, salad and lemon wedges round off the meal.

DIY paella versus live catering

Some hosts like to cook themselves. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather be with your guests, we’ll do the cooking.

Cooking paella for a crowd yourself is possible, but it’s harder than it looks. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Our guide to cooking paella for a crowd explains how.

Where we can cook in Ifield

We’ll agree the cooking spot with you before the day. A good spot ticks these boxes:

  • A picture of the garden helps us check the space
  • Outdoor space or a ventilated gazebo
  • The venue’s permission for live cooking

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before booking.
