Paella catering in West Studdal, cooked live

Watching it cook is part of the experience. People drift over as the sofrito sizzles and the rice turns gold, and the aroma does the rest. We’re often asked to cater anniversary celebrations and weddings and evening receptions, serving black rice, vegan paella and chicken and chorizo paella.

In a hamlet or village like West Studdal, your own garden or a neighbour’s field can make a wonderful venue. Mention gates and soft ground when you get in touch. Your quote spells out exactly what’s included: the menu, the staff and any extras, with no surprises on the day.

What affects the price in West Studdal

Your quote will be clear and itemised. What affects it most:

  • How many staff you need
  • Timings and hours
  • Your choice of paellas
  • The number of people

Cost depends on guest numbers, the menu and the courses, plus any staff, crockery and travel. We quote for each event individually.

What we need to know

The more we know about your event, the better we can plan. Please include:

  • Approximate guest numbers, including children
  • What the venue already provides
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergy numbers
  • Which courses you have in mind

Each quote is tailored to your event. Tell us your date and guest numbers, and we will confirm whether we are available that day.

Dietary needs and planning tips

Dietary needs are easy to plan for with a little notice. We suggest:

  • Tell us how many children are coming
  • Choose two or three paellas so every guest has a choice
  • Flag any coeliac guests, not just gluten-free preferences
  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down

Paella is best eaten as soon as it is ready, so we plan service for when guests are ready to eat.

Bread, salad and lemon wedges make the meal go further and suit guests who are not big rice eaters.

West Studdal: venues, travel and local tips

West Studdal is about 4 miles west of Deal, in Kent. Wherever your event is in the CT14 area, we can cook for your guests. West Studdal is one of 922 towns and villages in Kent where we cook. You can also see our page for Canterbury, about 11 miles away.

Historic houses near West Studdal include Walmer Castle (4.2 miles east) and Goodnestone Park (4.3 miles north-west). If your event is at a historic house or estate, check its rules on caterers and cooking early. For guests coming by train, Martin Mill station is about 3 miles away. The coast is within about 5 miles of West Studdal, so a seafood pan is a popular choice. Sea breezes can be strong, so we plan a sheltered cooking spot.

This part of Kent takes in CT14 and CT15, and we can cater your event anywhere in it. Local streets include Dover Road and Strakers Hill; an event at home on any of them works well with live paella. DIY paella versus live catering

Weighing up DIY against a caterer? Consider your numbers, your guests’ diets and your own time. We’re happy to give you a quote to compare.

Some hosts like to cook themselves. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the cooking.

Dishes our guests love

Vegetable and vegan paella

Seasonal vegetables on a rich sofrito base make a proper main dish. For vegans, the stock is plant-based.

Mixed paella

Mixed paella brings meat and seafood together.

West Studdal: your questions answered

Is West Studdal too small for live paella?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and parking.

Can you cook near the sea around West Studdal?

Yes, as long as we can shelter from the wind. Sea breezes cool the pan, so a windbreak, building or gazebo helps.

Can you cook halal paella?

We can. Let us know your halal numbers, and it’s cooked separately.

Where do you cater?

We cater across London and the South East, Kent included. See all areas.

Can we add tapas or canapés?

Of course. Canapés with drinks or tapas for the tables, served while the paella cooks.

Can you bring crockery?

Yes, on request. Crockery, cutlery and napkins, or good-quality disposables are available.

Do you do desserts?

Yes. Spanish desserts such as churros or crema catalana.

How much paella per person?

We size the pans for your numbers and the rest of the menu. Let us know about any other food. See how much paella per person.

Is live paella right for your event?

Barbecues cook in batches, so food comes off in waves. Paella is ready all at once, so everyone eats together. Got a budget? Let us know, and we will suggest a menu to match. A simple menu can still feel generous.

For planners, venues and organisers

Events in public spaces, like parks, typically need permission. We can send whatever the landowner or council needs from us.

If you are organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a festival organiser, we will work directly with you and the venue. It saves passing messages back and forth.

The process

We get there well before serving, set up the cooking area and get the stock going. Your guests are welcome to watch as the paella takes shape. Around midsummer it stays light in West Studdal until about 9:15pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:00pm, so summer evening events are normally served in daylight. For winter events, when it is dark by about 3:50pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. You tell us the date, venue, guest numbers and any dietary needs.
  2. We suggest a menu and confirm a quote, including what’s included.
  3. On the day we arrive in good time, set up and start the stock.
  4. The rice cooks in full view, while tapas or canapés go round.
  5. It is served straight from the pan, and we pack down afterwards.

Preparing for the day

  • Confirm numbers and diets before the day
  • Have a level space ready for the pans
  • Keep the cooking spot clear of fences, hedges and branches
