Common questions in Terriers

Which station should guests use for Terriers?

The closest is High Wycombe station, roughly 1 mile away.

Can you cook at venues in the Chilterns National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules; ask your venue. We will follow the site rules.

How many paellas should we have?

Two or three covers most guests. Tell us about your guests’ diets and we will suggest the mix.

Can you serve tapas as well?

Of course. Canapé tapas with the drinks, or table tapas to share, served while the paella cooks.

Where do you cater?

We cover London and the South East, Buckinghamshire included. See all areas.

How far ahead should we book?

As early as you can, especially for summer weekends. Ask about your date even if it’s soon.

Who clears up?

We clear our cooking area away when service is finished. Clearing guests’ plates and tables can be added with waiting staff.

How much is live paella catering?

It depends on guest numbers, the menu, the courses, staff and travel. Send us the details for a quote.

Paella catering in Terriers, made fresh on the day

We arrive with the pans, burners and fresh ingredients and cook the paella in front of your guests. When it’s ready, it’s served straight from the pan. We cook black rice, vegan paella and vegetable paella, and we are often booked for retirement and leaving parties and fairs, fêtes and festivals.

In and around Terriers, gardens and local halls are common choices. If access is tight, we’ll plan around it. Each paella is cooked from scratch on the day, never made in advance and reheated, and served as soon as it’s ready.

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, keep the stock hot, and do not stir once the rice goes in. And keep children and pets well away from the burner.

Plenty of people try cooking paella for their own party. Common mistakes are mismatched pans and burners, overfilling and stirring. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us cook.

What happens on the day

Service is quick: we serve straight from the pan, so large groups are fed quickly. When service is finished, we pack down. Evenings in Terriers stay light until about 9:25pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:05pm; once it is dark, we need light to cook and serve by.

  1. Start with the date, the place and the numbers.
  2. Expect a menu idea and a clear, itemised price.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm the plan.
  4. On the day we cook live, timed around your event.
  5. Guests are served from the pan, and our area is cleared afterwards.

About the dishes

Paella Valenciana

Paella Valenciana is the original: chicken, beans and saffron, not seafood. It is a favourite with guests who do not eat fish.

Black rice

Arroz negro is coloured and flavoured with squid ink, traditionally with alioli. It is a striking addition to a seafood menu.

Is live paella right for your event?

Compared with a hog roast or barbecue, live paella is easier for vegetarian, vegan and halal guests, thanks to separate pans. It’s served quickly from the pan, so queues move. Extras such as tapas, desserts, sangria, staff and crockery are priced separately, so you can choose exactly what you need.

Why us?

  • Sangria and bar staff available
  • Add tapas, canapés and Spanish desserts
  • Real theatre, not just catering
  • Fast service from the pan
