Live paella catering in Stroude

Diets, allergies and planning

Paella is one of the easiest dishes for mixed diets, because each paella is cooked in its own pan. Here are a few tips for planning:

  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down
  • Confirm allergies by email
  • Tell us how many children are coming

Any staff you book serve and clear, so you can enjoy your guests.

We can add sangria and bar staff to serve drinks you provide.

Paella catering in Stroude, made fresh on the day

Everything is cooked from scratch on site, starting with a slow sofrito of onion, garlic, peppers and tomato, followed by stock, saffron and rice. We are often asked to cater retirement and leaving parties and weddings and evening receptions, serving paella Valenciana, seafood paella and black rice.

Somewhere as small as Stroude, a garden or field is frequently the venue. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives and we’ll plan for them, and cooking close to where we can park helps. Your quote spells out exactly what’s included: menu, staff, crockery and anything else you choose, with no surprises on the day.

The process

Your timings come first. If things run behind, we hold the paella at the right stage so it is still served fresh. Around midsummer it stays light in Stroude until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. For winter events, when it is dark by about 3:55pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. Start with the date, the place and the numbers.
  2. We come back with paellas to suit your guests, plus any extras.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm the plan.
  4. On the day we cook live, timed around your event.
  5. Guests are served from the pan, and our area is cleared afterwards.

Preparing for the day

  • Plan cover in case of rain
  • Let us know the timings for the day
  • Keep the cooking spot clear of fences, hedges and branches

Questions from Stroude

We are having a ceremony at Christ Church: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is normally elsewhere. Tell us where the reception will be.

Can you cook in Riverside Walk?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, generally the council. Check with them, and we’ll provide our paperwork.

Which paellas suit our guests?

Most events choose two or three: a mixed or chicken paella, a seafood paella and a vegetable or vegan one. Our menu lists the options.

How do you work out quantities?

We size the pans for your numbers and the rest of the menu. Tell us what else is being served. Our guide to portions explains more.

Do you take everything away?

We clear our cooking area away when service is finished. Clearing guests’ plates and tables can be added with waiting staff.

What areas do you cover?

London and South East England: Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight.

Do you do desserts?

Yes, Spanish desserts can be added. Let us know if you’d like one in your enquiry.

Is it really cooked live?

Yes. We arrive with everything we need and cook on the day, serving it hot from the pan.

A closer look at the menu

Vegetable and vegan paella

Seasonal vegetables on a rich sofrito base make a paella that stands on its own. Vegan versions use plant-based stock.

Seafood paella

Prawns, mussels and squid in a rich fish stock, cooked until the rice is golden. It’s the pan people photograph.

Should I cook it myself?

Plenty of people try cooking paella for their own party. Common mistakes are mismatched pans and burners, overfilling and stirring. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us cook.

DIY catering keeps costs down, but the host spends the party cooking. With live paella catering, you get the theatre without the work.
