How to compare caterers

Is live paella right for your event?

Plated meals need a kitchen and a bigger team. Live paella needs only a level, ventilated spot and permission to cook, and gives guests something to watch. Comparing caterers? Look at what each quote includes: staff, crockery, bread and salads, travel and VAT. Our quotes spell it all out.

Why us?

  • Separate pans for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests
  • Cooking your guests will gather round to watch
  • Add tapas, canapés and Spanish desserts
  • Crockery and waiting staff if you need them

What paella catering costs

Here’s what makes the biggest difference to the price:

  • How many guests are eating
  • Plates, cutlery and glassware
  • Parking and unloading
  • Waiting and bar staff

The cost per head generally falls as numbers rise, because the cooking set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

Details that help

Here’s what makes a quick, accurate quote possible:

  • The date and time of the event
  • The address or venue name
  • Which courses you have in mind
  • What the venue already provides

It’s easy to get a price: share your date, venue, numbers and diets. We will come back with a clear quote.

About the dishes

Vegetable and vegan paella

The vegetable pan is a dish in its own right: artichokes, beans, peppers and saffron.

Mixed paella

Mixed paella brings meat and seafood together, and it is frequently the first pan to empty.

Should I cook it myself?

Hiring a pan and burner is one option, but you will still need to source ingredients, prep and cook for hours. We take care of all of it.

Some hosts like to cook themselves. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us cook.

Catering for every guest

Good planning keeps every guest safe and happy. Try these:

  • Ask about diets and allergies on your invitation or RSVP
  • Flag any coeliac guests, not just gluten-free preferences
  • Mention any other courses or food
  • Confirm allergies by email

Once everyone is fed, we clear our cooking area, quietly and quickly.

Sangria and bar staff can be added for your own drinks.

The process

When we arrive, we set up our cooking area, light the burners and start the sofrito. The rice goes in about 20 minutes before serving, so we time everything to your schedule. Around midsummer it stays light in Southcourt until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. First, you send us your date, venue, numbers and diets.
  2. We suggest a menu and confirm a quote, including what’s included.
  3. On the day we arrive in good time, set up and start the stock.
  4. The rice cooks in full view, while tapas or canapés go round.
  5. It is served straight from the pan, and we pack down afterwards.

Before we arrive

  • Keep the cooking spot clear of fences, hedges and branches
  • Check the venue allows live cooking
  • Let us know the timings for the day
