On the menu are vegan paella, vegetable paella and seafood paella, and we are regularly asked to cater fairs, fêtes and festivals and anniversaries and engagement parties.

In Sands End, events range from terrace gardens to hired halls. Let us know where we can stop to unload, and whether there are steps or narrow passages. All the cooking equipment comes with us, and we clear our cooking area away afterwards.

Sands End: venues, travel and local tips

Sands End is about 2 miles south-west of Brompton, in Greater London. Wherever your event is in the SW11 area, we can bring the pans to you. Sands End is one of 764 places in Greater London where we cook.

Thinking of a picnic-style party in Imperial Park? Public parks typically need permission from the council or landowner for cooking, so check first. For a christening or wedding at a church such as St Mary's Church, a paella lunch or reception nearby is an easy way to feed everyone.

This part of Greater London takes in SW11, SW6 and SW10, so your event can be anywhere in it. We can cater an event on streets such as York Road, Lots Road and Hyde Lane or the roads around them. For events just outside Sands End, we cover Chelsea Harbour (1 mile north), Walham Green (1 mile north-west), World's End (1 mile north), Clapham Junction (1 mile south-east) and Little Chelsea (1 mile north). We also cook in nearby towns such as London (4 miles north-east), City of Westminster (3 miles north), Marylebone (3 miles north-east), St Pancras (5 miles north-east), Shoreditch (6 miles north-east) and Walthamstow (10 miles north-east).

A little further out are Southside Wandsworth (1.4 miles south-west) and Westminster St Margaret and St John (2.7 miles north-east). The countryside around Sands End includes Campden Hill and WWT London Wetland Centre.

What affects the price in Sands End

Every event is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Travel, parking and access
  • How long we are needed on site
  • Your choice of paellas
  • Extra courses such as canapés, tapas and dessert

There’s no one-size-fits-all price for live paella. A garden party lunch and a full wedding menu are very different jobs. We itemise everything in your quote.

Details that help

These details help us quote quickly:

  • The venue or postcode
  • Your date and when you want to eat
  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff
  • Whether you want canapés, tapas or desserts

We quote for each event separately, so the price fits what you actually want. For a quote, fill in our quote form.

Should I cook it myself?

You can hire equipment and do it yourself, but you’ll still need to source ingredients, prep and cook for hours. A caterer handles all of that.

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up stuck at the stove. Booking us means you get the show without the stress.

Planning the cooking area

Safety and good cooking both depend on the spot we use. We need:

  • Level ground for the pans and burners
  • Parking close enough to carry equipment
  • Space well away from trees, fences and gazebo walls

As a London location, Sands End is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and parking takes planning: tell us about parking bays, permits or a driveway.

Not sure about your space? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly.

What we offer

  • Vegetable paella
  • Black rice (arroz negro)
  • Seafood paella
  • Mixed paella
  • Chicken & chorizo paella
  • Vegan paella
  • Paella Valenciana

Working with your venue

Wedding planners and venue coordinators are welcome to contact us directly, and we’ll keep you updated on timings and set-up.

For repeat events, such as annual staff parties or seasonal fairs, let us know your dates early, so we can hold the date.

What happens on the day

We cook over gas burners in wide, shallow pans. We need a level, ventilated spot, which we agree with you beforehand. Around midsummer it stays light in Sands End until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening events are usually served in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. Get in touch with the basics: when, where and how many.
  2. Expect a menu idea and a clear, itemised price.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm the plan.
  4. We set up, cook from scratch and keep an eye on your timings.
  5. Guests are served from the pan, and our area is cleared afterwards.

Before we arrive

  • Check the venue allows live cooking
  • Name one person we can ask on the day

The menu, dish by dish

Black rice

Squid ink rice is bold and savoury, and is popular with adventurous guests.

Vegetable and vegan paella

Seasonal vegetables on a rich sofrito base make a proper main dish. Vegan versions use plant-based stock.

Perfect for your event in Sands End

It needs no kitchen, so it works in gardens, fields and marquees where other catering struggles.

Big or small, live paella works well. Typical bookings include:

  • Staff parties and work lunches
  • Engagement and anniversary parties
  • Festivals, fairs and school events
  • Garden parties and summer barbecues

If you’re organising a summer fair for a school like Falconbrook Primary School, a paella stall is a crowd-pleaser.

Choosing a paella caterer

Sands End questions

We are having a ceremony at St Mary's Church: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is generally elsewhere. Send us the reception address.

Which station should guests use for Sands End?

Imperial Wharf station, in Sands End itself.

Is paella enough as a main?

Paella is a meal in itself. Tapas and desserts can be added if you like.

Can you serve drinks?

Sangria, yes. For other drinks, we can provide bar staff to serve what you buy.

Can you do gluten-free paella?

We can, if you tell us in advance. Rice is naturally gluten-free, but stock and some ingredients may not be, so we make a separate gluten-free pan.

Do you cook inside?

Normally we cook outdoors or under a ventilated cover, since the burners are gas. Some venues have suitable spaces; we’ll check with you and the venue.

How many paellas should we have?

Two or three is usual: a meat or mixed paella, a seafood paella and a vegetable or vegan one. We will help you decide the split.

Which paellas suit our guests?

Most events choose two or three: chicken or mixed, seafood, and vegetable or vegan. See the sample menu.

Live paella or other catering?

A cold buffet is simple but has no theatre, and the food sits out. Paella is cooked in front of your guests and served hot. Comparing caterers? Look at what each quote includes: staff, crockery, sides, travel and VAT. We itemise ours.
