Live paella catering in Russ Hill
About our paella catering in Russ Hill
One cooking area feeds a lot of people, there’s very little waste, and the food is served hot. That is why it works for so many events. Typical bookings include staff parties and work lunches and anniversary celebrations, serving mixed paella, seafood paella and chicken and chorizo paella.
Somewhere as small as Russ Hill, a garden or field is frequently the venue. Country lanes and long drives are no problem if we know about them, and cooking close to where we can park helps. Each paella is cooked from scratch on the day, not reheated, and served as soon as it’s ready.
What’s in the pans
Paella Valenciana
Paella Valenciana is the original: chicken, beans and saffron, rather than seafood. It’s frequently the most popular pan at an event.
Mixed paella
Mixed paella brings meat and seafood together.
Paella compared with other options
A cold buffet is simple but has no theatre, and food can sit out for a while. Paella is cooked live and served hot. Travel, parking and access can affect the price, so it helps to tell us about your venue. Everything is confirmed in writing.
What you get with us
- Live cooking, not reheated food
- A clear, itemised quote
- Starters and desserts to complete the menu
- Real theatre, not just catering

Should I cook it myself?
Some hosts like to cook themselves. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us cook.
You can hire equipment and do it yourself, but you’ll still need to source ingredients, prep and cook for hours. A caterer handles all of that.
Dietary needs and planning tips
Most events have a mix of diets. To cater well for them:
- Make sure most guests can sit to eat
- Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease
- Confirm allergies by email
- Ask about diets and allergies on your invitation or RSVP
Any staff you book serve and clear, so you can relax.
Finish with churros, crema catalana or tarta de Santiago, or serve your own cake.
How it works
We take care of the food from set-up to service, so you are free to enjoy your event. Any tapas or canapés are served first as the rice is cooking. Planning an evening event in Russ Hill? Sunset is around 8:50pm in late May, 9:20pm at midsummer and 7:05pm in late September; after dark, the cooking and serving areas need good lighting.
- First, you send us your date, venue, numbers and diets.
- You get a suggested menu and an itemised quote.
- On the day we arrive in good time, set up and start the stock.
- The paella cooks in front of your guests, with tapas first if you’ve chosen them.
- We serve from the pan, then clear our cooking area away.

Russ Hill questions
Do you cater in the Surrey Hills National Landscape?
Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules; ask your venue. We will work to whatever the site needs.
Is Russ Hill too small for live paella?
Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and parking.
Which paella is most popular?
It depends on your guests. Chicken and mixed paellas tend to go first, alongside seafood and vegetable or vegan pans.
How much paella per person?
Quantities depend on numbers, timing and courses, with a sensible margin. Give us accurate numbers for the best result.
Is the paella gluten-free?
We can, if you tell us in advance. Rice is naturally gluten-free, but stock and some ingredients may not be, so we make a separate gluten-free pan.
Do you bring everything you need?
All cooking kit comes with us. Tell us what the venue provides, such as tables or crockery.
Do you cater for vegetarian guests?
Yes. We cook vegetarian and vegan paellas in their own pans, alongside the meat and seafood pans.
What is live paella catering?
We cook from scratch at your venue in big pans, in front of your guests, and serve straight from the pan.
