Paella catering for Penn events

About our paella catering in Penn

The cooking is half the fun. Guests gather round as the sofrito sizzles and the saffron colours the rice, and the aroma does the rest. Popular choices include black rice, seafood paella and vegan paella, and typical bookings are for retirement and leaving parties and birthday celebrations.

Somewhere like Penn, a field or garden is often the perfect setting. Mention gates and soft ground when you get in touch. We bring everything we need to cook, and pack down our cooking area when service is finished.

Should I cook it myself?

For a small group, cooking yourself can work well. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, and handles separate pans for each diet.

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up stuck at the stove. With live paella catering, you get the theatre without the work.

What we need at the venue

We’ll be honest if a space won’t work, and help find another spot. The main points are:

  • Outdoor space or a ventilated gazebo
  • The venue’s permission for live cooking
  • A level, firm spot for the burners and pans

Not sure about your space? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What we offer

  • Paella Valenciana
  • Vegan paella
  • Mixed paella
  • Seafood paella
  • Black rice (arroz negro)
  • Chicken & chorizo paella
  • Vegetable paella

Common questions in Penn

How far is Penn from London?

Roughly 27 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

Do you cater in the Chilterns National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules; ask your venue. We will work to whatever the site needs.

Can paella be the only main course?

Yes. With bread and salad, paella is a complete main, and tapas or dessert can be added.

Is the paella cooked on site?

Yes. We bring the pans, burners and fresh ingredients and cook it there and then, then serve straight from the pan.

Is the paella gluten-free?

Yes, on request. The rice is gluten-free, but stocks and chorizo can contain gluten, so we cook a gluten-free paella separately.

What if the weather’s bad?

Rain does not stop us, as long as there’s a ventilated cover. We will talk it through before the day.

How many different paellas?

Two or three covers most guests. Tell us about your guests’ diets and we will suggest the mix.

Do you provide plates and cutlery?

We can. Tell us what your venue provides and we will include the rest in the quote.

Prices and what affects them

Each event is quoted on its own, based on a few main things:

  • Waiting and bar staff
  • The number of people
  • Parking and unloading
  • Your choice of paellas

When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: staff, crockery, sides, travel and VAT. We itemise ours.

What we need to know

To check availability and price, we need:

  • Anything your venue supplies
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergy numbers
  • Where the event is
  • A picture of where we’d cook

It’s easy to get a price: tell us the date, place, numbers and any dietary needs. We will come back with a clear quote and a suggested menu.

Planning for every diet

Few dishes handle mixed diets as well as paella, because each paella is cooked in its own pan. A few tips:

  • Let us know about other food at the event
  • Choose two or three paellas so every guest has a choice
  • Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease
  • Give us separate numbers for children

Let the paella rest for a few minutes before serving, and that’s when we invite guests up.

Finish with churros, crema catalana or tarta de Santiago.

Planners, venues and businesses

If you are organising for someone else, whether you are a planner, an office manager or an event organiser, we are happy to deal with you and the venue directly. It saves passing messages back and forth.

Throwing a party at home? Send a picture of the space and tell us about parking, and we will tell you honestly whether live paella will work.

The process

We get there well before serving, set up the cooking area and get the stock going. Guests usually gather round to watch while it cooks. Evenings in Penn stay light until about 9:25pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:05pm; once it’s dark, we need light to cook and serve by.

  1. Get in touch with the basics: when, where and how many.
  2. Expect a menu idea and a clear, itemised price.
  3. Closer to the day, we confirm timings and the cooking spot.
  4. We set up, cook from scratch and keep an eye on your timings.
  5. Guests are served from the pan, and our area is cleared afterwards.

How to prepare

  • Keep the cooking spot clear of fences, hedges and branches
  • Check the venue allows live cooking
  • Let us know the timings for the day
