Catering for every guest

Good planning keeps every guest safe and happy. Here’s how:

  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Give us separate numbers for children

  • Let us know about other food at the event

Once everyone is fed, we clear our cooking area.

Bread, salad and lemon wedges make the meal go further and suit guests who are not big rice eaters.

Paella catering in Oving, cooked live

Keep it simple, or go all out: just paella, or paella with tapas, desserts and drinks. We’ll recommend what fits your event. We are often asked to cater garden parties and summer barbecues and leaving dos and retirements, with vegetable paella, vegan paella and black rice.

In a rural place like Oving, the setting does a lot of the work: a paella cooking in a garden or field feels right at home. Tell us about access and the ground. Everything is cooked from scratch at your event, never made in advance and reheated.

About the dishes

Mixed paella

Chicken and seafood together.

Seafood paella

The secret is a well-made seafood stock. Shellfish goes in towards the end so it stays tender.

Why choose live paella in Oving?

Plated meals need a kitchen and a bigger team. Live paella needs only a level, ventilated spot and permission to cook, and it is entertaining too. Tapas, desserts, sangria, staff and crockery are optional extras, so you only pay for what you want.

Why book with us

  • Cooking your guests will gather round to watch
  • Fast service from the pan
  • Tapas, canapés and desserts if you want them
  • No hidden extras in your quote

See Our prices page Or The cost guide.

The process

On the day, we set up our cooking area, light the burners and start the sofrito. The rice goes in about 20 minutes before serving, so the timing is planned around your event. Around midsummer it stays light in Oving until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening events are typically served in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. We start with a few details about your event.
  2. We suggest paellas and extras and send a clear quote.
  3. We agree timings, access and the cooking spot.
  4. We cook live on the day while guests watch.
  5. We serve from the pan, then pack down.

Before we arrive

  • Keep the cooking spot clear of fences, hedges and branches
  • Have a gazebo or cover ready if rain is likely
  • Have a level space ready for the pans

Live paella in Oving: local details

Oving is about 3 miles east of Chichester, in West Sussex. Whether your event is in the middle of Oving or on the outskirts, paella catering works the same way: live cooking, separate pans for every diet and a clear price. We cook in all 371 towns and villages across West Sussex, from the larger towns to small villages. Our events stretch from Oving to Brighton (26 miles away).

School fairs and fundraisers, for a school such as Westbourne House School, can book us as a food stall. For a christening or wedding at a church such as The Parish Church of St Andrew, a paella lunch or reception nearby is an easy way to feed everyone. Oving is within about 5 miles of the sea, so a seafood pan is a popular choice. Coastal wind means we plan a sheltered spot.

What paella catering costs

Every event is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • Travel, parking and access
  • Waiting and bar staff
  • Crockery and cutlery, or disposables
  • How long we’re needed on site

Live paella frequently compares well with a sit-down meal, because it needs no kitchen and fewer staff. We’ll send you a quote.

Getting an accurate quote

You don’t need every detail fixed to get a quote, but it helps to know:

  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff
  • Which courses you have in mind
  • The venue or postcode
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergy numbers

Not sure what you need yet? That is fine: tell us about the occasion and the guests, and we’ll make suggestions. To start, use our quote form.

Space, weather and the venue

Most gardens and venues can host live paella, but a few things matter:

  • Open air or a well-ventilated covered spot
  • A safe distance from anything that could catch
  • Level ground for the pans and burners

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before booking.

What we offer

  • Black rice (arroz negro)
  • Vegan paella
  • Mixed paella
  • Vegetable paella
  • Chicken & chorizo paella
  • Seafood paella
  • Paella Valenciana

Common questions in Oving

Do you come out to small places like Oving?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and parking.

How far is Oving from London?

Roughly 53 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

Which paellas suit our guests?

Most events choose two or three: chicken or mixed, seafood, and vegetable or vegan. Our menu lists the options.

Can the paella be cooked in a hall?

Usually we cook outdoors or under a ventilated cover, since the burners are gas. Some venues have suitable spaces; we will check with you and the venue.

Is the paella gluten-free?

We can cook a gluten-free paella in its own pan. Tell us about any coeliac guests when you book so we take the right care.

How much space do you need?

Not a lot: a flat spot away from anything flammable, with space to serve. Send us a picture if you are not sure.

Where do you cater?

We cater across London and the South East, West Sussex included. Find your area.

Can you supply plates?

Yes, if you need them. Tell us what your venue provides and we will include the rest in the quote.
