How to compare caterers

Paella catering in Hothfield, cooked live

Watching it cook is part of the experience. People drift over as the sofrito sizzles and the rice turns gold, and the smell does the rest. We are frequently asked to cater office lunches and staff parties and anniversary celebrations, with vegan paella, seafood paella and paella Valenciana.

Somewhere as small as Hothfield, a garden or field is often the venue. Country lanes and long drives are no problem if we know about them, and a firm spot near where we park makes set-up easier. Every guest is catered for, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal included, each in a separate pan and clearly labelled.

For planners, venues and organisers

For larger events, we plan the number of pans and serving points around your timings, so everyone eats promptly. Tell us how long you have for food.

Venues frequently have their own rules about outside caterers: where cooking is allowed, access times and the paperwork they need. Tell us what your venue needs and we’ll work to it.

Paella compared with other options

Compared with a hog roast or barbecue, live paella is easier for vegetarian, vegan and halal guests, thanks to separate pans. It is served quickly from the pan, so queues move. Travel, parking and access can affect the price, so tell us about the venue when you ask for a quote. Everything is confirmed in writing.

What you get with us

  • Starters and desserts to complete the menu

Questions from Hothfield

Do you come out to small places like Hothfield?

No, we cook in small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and parking.

Can you cater a reception after a service at Church of St Margaret?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is usually elsewhere. Send us the reception address.

Which paellas suit our guests?

Most events choose two or three: chicken or mixed, seafood, and vegetable or vegan. Our menu lists the options.

Do you bring everything you need?

Pans, burners and ingredients all come with us. You provide a suitable spot and access.

How far ahead should we book?

As early as you can, especially for summer weekends. Ask about your date even if it is soon.

What does paella catering cost?

The price depends on numbers, menu, courses, staff and travel. Tell us about your event and we’ll send a quote.

Do you cater for vegetarian guests?

Of course. We cook vegetarian and vegan paellas in their own pans.

Do you do starters?

Of course. Canapé tapas with the drinks, or table tapas to share, while the rice is cooking.

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and we’ll say what we think.

Dietary needs and planning tips

Nearly every event has some special diets. To cater well for them:

  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Tell us how many children are coming
  • Ask for labels on each pan

A short rest after cooking helps, and that’s when we invite guests up.

Add canapé tapas with the drinks or table tapas as a starter as the rice cooks.

What affects the price in Hothfield

We’ll give you a clear, itemised quote. The main things that affect it are:

  • Your choice of paellas
  • Timings and hours
  • Extra courses such as canapés, tapas and dessert
  • Guest numbers

Tapas, desserts, sangria, staff and crockery are optional extras, so you can choose exactly what you need.

What we need to know

The more we know about your event, the better we can plan. Please include:

  • A photo of the cooking space, if it is a garden or field
  • Roughly how many adults and children
  • The courses you’d like
  • Diets and allergies you know about

Send us the date, your venue or TN26 postcode and guest numbers, along with any dietary needs, and we’ll reply with a menu suggestion and a quote. To get started, use our quote form.

About the dishes

Seafood paella

Prawns, mussels and squid in a rich fish stock, finished with lemon wedges. It’s generally the most photographed pan.

Mixed paella

A mix of chicken and seafood.

Step by step

When we arrive, we set up the burners and pans and start cooking the sofrito and stock. The rice goes in about 20 minutes before serving, so the timing is planned around your event. Around midsummer it stays light in Hothfield until about 9:15pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:00pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 3:50pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and venue.
  2. We plan a menu that covers every diet.
  3. We arrive in good time to set up.
  4. The paella cooks as guests gather round.
  5. Service is straight from the pan, then we pack down.

Getting ready for the day

  • Tell us where to park and unload
  • Tell us when you want to eat
  • Give us your final numbers and diets
