How our paella catering works in Horden

Live paella works almost anywhere with a level, ventilated spot: gardens, marquees, barns, courtyards and festival fields. Typical bookings include weddings and evening receptions and retirement and leaving parties, with seafood paella, chicken and chorizo paella and vegan paella.

In a small place like Horden, events are generally in a garden, a field or a nearby hall. Country lanes and long drives are no problem if we know about them, and a firm spot near where we park makes set-up easier. We bring everything we need to cook, and pack down our cooking area when service is finished.

How we price paella catering

The price comes down to a few factors:

  • How many staff you need
  • Whether you need crockery
  • The paellas you choose
  • How long we are needed on site

Compared with a plated meal, live paella is often good value, because it needs no kitchen and fewer staff. Ask us for a quote.

What to tell us

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what’s useful:

  • The courses you’d like
  • A picture of where we’d cook
  • The date and time of the event
  • Roughly how many adults and children

Not sure what you need yet? No problem: tell us about the occasion and the guests, and we will make suggestions. Start when you’re ready: use our quote form.

For planners, venues and organisers

Many venues have rules for outside caterers: where cooking is allowed, access times and the paperwork they need. Send us your venue’s requirements and we will follow them.

Hosting a party at home? Send a photo of the space and tell us about parking, and we will tell you honestly whether live paella will work.

The process

The paella is cooked in giant, shallow pans over gas burners. We need a level, ventilated spot, which we agree with you beforehand. In Horden, the sun sets at about 9:15pm in late June and about 7:00pm in late September, so summer evening events are generally served in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and any dietary needs.
  2. We put together a menu and a clear quote.
  3. On the day, we set up the burners and pans and get the stock going.
  4. The rice cooks in full view, while tapas or canapés go round.
  5. It’s served straight from the pan, and we pack down afterwards.

Before we arrive

  • Ensure the spot is clear of anything flammable
  • Let us know who to talk to on the day
  • Give us your final numbers and diets

Catering for every guest

We cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests. To make it work smoothly:

  • Ask about diets and allergies on your invitation or RSVP
  • Tell us about coeliac guests specifically
  • Put allergy details in writing
  • Make sure most guests can sit to eat

A short rest after cooking helps, which is when we normally call guests over.

Need plates or staff? We can provide them.

What’s in the pans

Black rice

Black rice gets its colour from squid ink, and is usually served with alioli. It makes a dramatic second seafood pan.

Vegetable and vegan paella

A slow sofrito, seasonal vegetables and a good vegetable stock make a proper main dish. For vegans, the stock is plant-based.

Planning live paella in Horden

Horden is about 6 miles south-east of Paddock Wood, in Kent. Give us the address of your event in Horden, and we’ll plan access and set-up. Horden is one of 922 towns and villages in Kent we cover. Our nearest city page is Canterbury, about 27 miles away.

Thinking of a picnic-style party in The Gill? Public parks normally need permission from the council or landowner for cooking, so check first. If you’re organising a summer fair for a school like Colliers Green Church of England Primary School, a paella stall is a crowd-pleaser. The High Weald National Landscape is within about 4 miles of Horden, and country venues and gardens there suit live paella perfectly. Some venues in protected landscapes have rules about vehicles and cooking, so check with yours.

This part of Kent takes in TN17 and TN12, and we can cater your event anywhere in it. Local streets include Hill Top and Husheath Hill; an event at home on any of them works well with live paella. Nearby, we also cater events in Colliers Green (1 mile south), Flishinghurst (2 miles south), Marden Thorn (2 miles north), Knox Bridge (2 miles east) and Cranbrook Common (3 miles east). We also cook in nearby towns such as Maidstone (9 miles north), Royal Tunbridge Wells (10 miles west), Tonbridge (11 miles north-west), Kings Hill (10 miles north-west), Foley Park (10 miles north) and Paddock Wood (6 miles north-west).

Well-known places in the area include Sissinghurst Castle (3.6 miles east) and Brattle Farm Museum (2 miles north-east).

Questions from Horden

Do you cater in the High Weald National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles, ground and cooking, so check with yours. We will work to whatever the site needs.

How far is Horden from London?

Roughly 36 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

What do you need at the venue?

Not a lot: a flat spot away from anything flammable, with space to serve. If in doubt, send a picture.

Can you serve drinks?

Sangria can be added, and provide bar staff to serve drinks you supply.

How does live paella catering work?

We arrive with pans, burners and ingredients, cook in front of your guests, and serve at the time you want.

Do you have a kids’ option?

Yes. Children often love a simple chicken paella. Include children in your numbers.

Do you do vegan paella?

Yes. We cook vegetarian and vegan paellas in their own pans.

Do you offer halal options?

Yes, on request. Let us know your halal numbers, and we’ll cook a separate pan.

Paella compared with other options

Barbecues cook in batches, so food comes off in waves. Paella is cooked as one big dish and served together. Got a budget? Let us know, and we will put together a menu that fits. Even a simple menu can be a feast.

What you get with us

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

Some hosts like to cook themselves. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the cooking.

You can hire equipment and do it yourself, but there’s shopping, prep and hours of cooking. We take care of all of it.
