Here are some of the events we cook for:

  • Wedding breakfasts and evening food
  • Garden get-togethers
  • Leaving dos and retirements
  • Staff parties and work lunches

Thinking of a picnic-style party in Priest Hill? Public parks typically need permission from the council or landowner for cooking, so check first.

  • How bad weather is handled
  • Payment terms and deposit

Our caterer checklist

Paella catering in Epsom Downs, cooked live

Live paella catering means we bring the pans, burners and fresh ingredients to your event and cook in front of your guests. Once it’s ready, we serve it hot from the pan. We cook chicken and chorizo paella, paella Valenciana and seafood paella, and we’re regularly asked to cater wedding breakfasts and evening food and engagement and anniversary parties.

For a rural spot like Epsom Downs, the countryside is part of the appeal: a giant pan in a garden or field fits perfectly. Let us know about access and ground conditions. Every guest is catered for, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal included, with each paella cooked in its own pan.

The process

We get there well before serving, set up the cooking area and get the stock going. Guests normally gather round to watch while it cooks. In Epsom Downs, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so summer evening events are usually served in daylight. For winter events, when it is dark by about 3:55pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. You get a menu and an itemised quote.
  3. We agree timings, access and the cooking spot.
  4. We cook live on the day while guests watch.
  5. We serve from the pan, then pack down.

Getting ready for the day

  • Share the running order, including any speeches
  • Make sure the spot is clear of anything flammable
  • Pick a flat, firm spot for us to cook

Live paella or other catering?

If you want something different from the usual buffet or roast, live paella adds colour, smell and theatre to your event in Epsom Downs. Extras such as tapas, desserts, sangria, staff and crockery are priced separately, so you only pay for what you want.

Why book with us

  • Everything cooked fresh at your event
  • Waiting staff and crockery on request
  • Catering across Surrey, including Epsom Downs
  • Sangria and bar staff available

See Our prices page And Our guide to catering costs.

Catering for every guest

Dietary needs are easy to plan for with a little notice. We suggest:

  • Ask for labels on each pan
  • Mention any other courses or food
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Put allergy details in writing

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We set up, cook and serve, and stay in touch with your venue about timings.

Crockery, cutlery and waiting staff are available if your venue does not provide them.

DIY paella versus live catering

Cooking paella for a crowd yourself is possible, but it’s harder than it looks. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right at scale is tricky. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.

Cooking it yourself? Test your pan and burner first, keep the stock hot, and leave the rice alone once it is in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

The menu, dish by dish

Vegetable and vegan paella

Seasonal vegetables on a rich sofrito base make a paella that stands on its own. Vegan versions use plant-based stock.

Seafood paella

Prawns, mussels and squid in a rich fish stock, cooked until the rice is golden. It’s generally the most photographed pan.

Organising for someone else?

If you run the same event each year, tell us your dates early, so we can hold the date.

Planning an event for a club, school or charity in Epsom Downs? Paella is quick to serve to a crowd and suits most diets. Give us the details and we will suggest a plan.

What we need at the venue

Most gardens and venues can host live paella, but there are a few things to check:

  • Somewhere close to park and unload
  • Outdoor space or a ventilated gazebo
  • A safe distance from anything that could catch

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before booking.

What we offer

  • Black rice (arroz negro)
  • Vegetable paella
  • Paella Valenciana
  • Mixed paella
  • Vegan paella
  • Chicken & chorizo paella
  • Seafood paella

Common questions in Epsom Downs

Is Epsom Downs close to London?

About 14 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

Is Epsom Downs too small for live paella?

No, we cook in small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and parking.

Does paella work for big events?

Yes. Large pans and fast service from the pan make it well suited to crowds.

Do we need to provide equipment?

We bring the pans, burners and ingredients. You provide a suitable spot and access.

Is paella enough as a main?

It is a full meal on its own. Many hosts add tapas first or dessert after.

Do you clear up afterwards?

We pack down our cooking area after service. Clearing guests’ plates and tables can be added with waiting staff.

What about pudding?

Yes, Spanish desserts can be added. Tell us what you have in mind when you ask for a quote.

Do you cook inside?

Generally we cook outdoors or under a ventilated cover, since the burners are gas. We will check whether your venue has a suitable space.
