Cook it yourself or book a caterer?
Not sure whether to cook yourself or book a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. Ask us for a quote and compare.
Cooking paella for a crowd yourself is possible, but it is harder than it looks. Large pans need the right burners, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.
Space, weather and the venue
Every venue is different, so we ask about the space when you get in touch. Generally, we look for:
- A safe distance from anything that could catch
- Level ground for the pans and burners
- Confirmation that open cooking is allowed
Not sure about your space? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.
What we offer
- Vegetable paella
- Mixed paella
- Chicken & chorizo paella
- Vegan paella
- Black rice (arroz negro)
- Seafood paella
- Paella Valenciana
The process
From set-up to serving, we look after the food, so you can enjoy your event. If you’ve chosen tapas or canapés, they go out first while the paella cooks. In Coxford, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it is dark by about 4:00pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.
- First, you send us your date, venue, numbers and diets.
- You get a suggested menu and an itemised quote.
- On the day, we set up the burners and pans and get the stock going.
- The paella cooks in front of your guests, with tapas first if you’ve chosen them.
- It’s served straight from the pan, and we pack down afterwards.
Getting ready for the day
- Keep the cooking spot clear of fences, hedges and branches
- Let us know the timings for the day
- Give us your final numbers and diets

If you’re celebrating after a service at a church like St Jude's Church, live paella at a garden or venue nearby works well. Coxford is within about 8 miles of the New Forest National Park, a lovely setting for an outdoor event. Check your venue’s rules on vehicles and cooking. The coast is within about 3 miles of Coxford, so a seafood pan is a popular choice. Sea breezes can be strong, so we plan a sheltered cooking spot.

Dietary needs and planning tips
Dietary needs are easy to plan for with a little notice. Our advice:
- Choose two or three paellas so every guest has a choice
- Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down
- Tell us how many children are coming
- Make sure each pan is labelled
After service, we pack down our cooking area, quietly and quickly.
Sangria and bar staff can be added to serve drinks you provide.
How we price paella catering
The same guest numbers can mean different prices, depending on:
- Starters, canapés and desserts
- The paellas you choose
- How many staff you need
- Plates, cutlery and glassware
Premium seafood costs more than chicken or vegetables, so your choice of paellas affects the total. Tell us your budget and we will suggest a menu.
What we need to know
When you get in touch, it helps to tell us:
- The courses you’d like
- The address or venue name
- Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergy numbers
- Your date and when you want to eat
We need only a few details to quote: the date, where the event is, how many guests and any dietary needs. You can use our quote form.

About the dishes
Black rice
Black rice gets its colour from squid ink, and is usually served with alioli. It makes a dramatic second seafood pan.
Vegetable and vegan paella
A slow sofrito, seasonal vegetables and a good vegetable stock make a proper main dish. Vegan versions use plant-based stock.
Why live cooking beats a buffet
Barbecues cook in batches, so food comes off in waves. Paella is cooked as one big dish and served together. When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: staff, crockery, bread and salads, travel and VAT. We itemise ours.
Why Coxford hosts choose us
- Drinks service on request
- Fast service from the pan
- Real theatre, not just catering
- Add tapas, canapés and Spanish desserts
