Pratling Street: your questions answered
Is Pratling Street close to London?
About 29 miles from central London, and well within our area.
Could we have live paella in Tyland Barn?
Only if the landowner, normally the council, allows it. Ask them first, and we will send any information they need.
Do you cater for coeliacs?
Yes, on request. Rice is naturally gluten-free, but stock and some ingredients may not be, so we make a separate gluten-free pan.
Do you do vegan paella?
Yes, and meat eaters often go back for seconds. Each is cooked separately, with its own stock and utensils.
Do you cover Pratling Street?
Yes, we do. We cook at events in Pratling Street and across Kent. Tell us your date and we’ll check availability.
Do you have the documents we need?
Tell us what the event needs and we’ll send it with our application.
Do you cook it at the event?
Yes, always. Every paella is cooked from scratch on site, where your guests can watch.
Can you supply plates?
If you need them, yes. Proper crockery or quality disposables are available.
About the dishes
Chicken & chorizo paella
A hearty, smoky pan.
Giant paella pans
Huge pans of golden rice, cooking in full view.
The process
We cook over gas burners in wide, shallow pans. It needs a level spot with some shelter and good ventilation, and we agree where that is before the day. At midsummer, events in Pratling Street stay light until about 9:15pm, which helps evening trading. For winter markets, dark by about 3:50pm, the pitch needs lighting.
- We check your dates.
- We agree menu and pitch.
- We set up our burners and pans.
- Pans are cooking as gates open.
- We serve, then pack down.
Preparing for the day
- Make sure we can park close by to unload
- Have a gazebo or cover ready if rain is likely
- Pick a flat, firm spot for us to cook
How to get a price
Every quote is put together for your event. Tell us your date and guest numbers, and we’ll confirm whether we are available that day.
Planning help
Cook it yourself or book a caterer?
Plenty of people try cooking paella for their own party. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us cook.
For a small group, cooking yourself can work well. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, and handles separate pans for each diet.
