Festival paella catering for your event in Hounsdown

Few street foods pull a crowd like a huge paella pan. The sight and smell of it cooking brings people over, and portions are served quickly from the pan. Typical bookings include county and country shows and charity and school events, serving seafood paella, giant-pan paella and chicken and chorizo paella.

Around Hounsdown, a fête or summer fair suits a giant paella pan. Tell us about the pitch, ground and access. All the cooking equipment comes with us, and we clear our cooking area away afterwards.

Hounsdown events: pitches and permissions

Hounsdown is about 1 mile south of Totton, in Southampton. Whether your event is in the middle of Hounsdown or on the outskirts, festival paella catering works the same way: live cooking, separate pans for every diet and a clear price. Hounsdown is one of 40 places in Southampton we cover.

School fairs, for a school like Hounsdown School, are a natural fit for a paella stall. For a church fête or fundraiser, at a church such as Colbury Christ Church, a paella stall adds a hot meal to the cakes and tombola. Within about 5 miles is the New Forest National Park, where events may have extra rules on vehicles and waste; we work to the site rules. The coast is within about 5 miles of Hounsdown, so for seaside events we plan a sheltered pitch.

We cater events across SO40. Whether your event is on Main Road, Pound Lane and Chapel Lane or anywhere nearby, we’ll bring the pans to you. If your venue is just outside Hounsdown, we also cover Ashurst Bridge (1 mile north-west), Totton (1 mile north), Netley Marsh (1 mile north-west), Woodlands (2 miles west) and Winsor (3 miles north-west). Within a short drive, we also cover Southampton (5 miles east), Shirley (3 miles east), Regents Park (3 miles east), Townhill Park (6 miles east), Midanbury (6 miles east) and Thornhill (7 miles east).

A little further out are National Dairy Museum (0.8 miles south) and Ashurst Hospital (1.4 miles south-west). Not far away are Testwood Lakes.

  • Local schools include Foxhills Infant School (0.5 miles west)
  • Nearby, you will find The Forest Inn (0.9 miles south-west)

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

Weighing up DIY against a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. Ask us for a quote and compare.

Some hosts like to cook themselves. Common mistakes are mismatched pans and burners, overfilling and stirring. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us cook.

Catering for every guest

Dietary needs are easy to plan for with a little notice. Our advice:

  • Ask traders about serving speed at peak times
  • Feed crew and volunteers at set times
  • Check every diet is covered by the line-up
  • Check traders’ packaging and waste plans

We keep our pitch tidy and safe.

Bowl food for easy eating on the move.

Why choose live paella in Hounsdown?

Food that sits in a hot cabinet is not much to look at. Paella cooking in full view sells itself. Tapas, desserts, sangria, staff and crockery are optional extras, so you only pay for what you want.

12 questions to ask before you book

Hounsdown: your questions answered

Do you cater in the New Forest National Park?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles, ground and cooking, so check with yours. We’ll follow the site rules.

Which station should guests use for Hounsdown?

The closest is Totton station, roughly 1.1 miles away.

Can you cook in the rain?

We need a covered spot, like a gazebo or open-sided marquee. We plan for rain with you in advance.

Do you take everything away?

Our cooking area is packed away and left clean. Ask us about table clearing if you need it.

Can we add tapas or canapés?

Yes, and it’s a popular combination. Tapas go out first, then the paella.

Can you cater for children?

Children are welcome. Tell us how many and roughly how old, and we’ll plan a pan with them in mind.

Can you provide dessert?

We do. Churros, crema catalana and tarta de Santiago are popular choices, or you can serve your own cake.

What do you need at the pitch?

Tell us what’s available at the pitch and we’ll confirm what we need.

Working with your venue

If you are organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a festival organiser, we will work directly with you and the venue. It saves passing messages back and forth.

If your event is in a public space, such as a park, check what permission you need first. We can send whatever the landowner or council needs from us.

The process

On the day, we set up the burners and pans and start cooking the sofrito and stock. The rice goes in about 20 minutes before serving, so we time everything to your schedule. Summer events in Hounsdown have daylight until about 9:25pm at midsummer and about 7:10pm by late September, which helps evening trading. For winter markets, dark by about 4:00pm, the pitch needs lighting.

  1. We check your dates.
  2. We agree menu and pitch.
  3. We set up our burners and pans.
  4. The first pans are ready as visitors arrive.
  5. We serve, then pack down.

How to prepare

  • Choose a level spot for the cooking area
  • Leave space around the cooking area
  • Plan cover in case of rain
