FAQs for Dormansland

Can you cook at venues in the High Weald National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules; ask your venue. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

Is Dormansland close to London?

About 24 miles from central London, and well within our area.

Do you cook inside?

Mostly outside or under an open cover, since the burners are gas. Some venues have suitable spaces; we’ll check with you and the venue.

Can you do sangria?

We can make sangria, and provide bar staff to serve drinks you supply.

Can you handle a lunchtime rush?

Paella is cooked in big batches and served from the pan, so service is quick.

Do you cater in Dormansland?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, including Dormansland and the rest of Surrey. For a quote, send us your details through our quote form.

Do you do crew catering?

We can. Crew, volunteer and VIP catering is available, with or without a public stall.

Can we add tapas or canapés?

Yes, it is the classic pairing. Tapas first, paella to follow.

Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

Not sure whether to cook yourself or book a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. Ask us for a quote and compare.

Some hosts like to cook themselves. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us cook.

Planning the cooking area

Before the day, we’ll agree where we cook. It needs to meet a few simple requirements:

  • Flat, firm ground
  • Your trader pack and site rules
  • Room for our cooking and serving area

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

What we offer

  • Churros
  • Chicken & chorizo paella
  • Tapas
  • Seafood paella
  • Vegan paella
  • Giant paella pans

The process

Here’s how the day generally runs: we arrive, set up and start cooking, the rice cooks in front of your guests, and it is served hot from the pan at the agreed time. Summer events in Dormansland have daylight until about 9:20pm at midsummer and about 7:05pm by late September, so evening trading typically finishes in daylight in high summer. Winter markets, dark by about 3:55pm, need a well-lit pitch.

  1. Send us your event details and pitch information.
  2. We confirm menu, pitch needs and documents.
  3. We arrive and set up at the agreed time.
  4. We cook and serve throughout.
  5. We clear and leave the pitch clean.

What affects the price in Dormansland

Each event is quoted on its own, based on a few main things:

  • Parking and unloading

  • Your choice of paellas
  • The number of people

The price depends on your guest numbers, the menu and how many courses you choose, plus any staff, crockery and travel. Every event gets its own quote.

Details that help

Good planning starts with a few facts. Please include:

  • The address or venue name

Paella compared with other options

Why us?

  • Sangria, plus bar staff for your own drinks
  • Food that becomes part of the entertainment
