Prices and what affects them

There is nothing hidden: the quote reflects:

  • Staff: cooks, waiting staff and bar staff
  • Distance and access to the venue
  • Chicken, vegetable or premium seafood
  • How many courses

When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: staff, crockery, bread and salads, travel and VAT. We itemise ours.

Getting an accurate quote

When you get in touch, it helps to tell us:

  • The address or venue name
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergy numbers
  • Approximate guest numbers, including children
  • A picture of the cooking space, if it is a garden or field

It is easy to get a price: tell us the date, place, numbers and any dietary needs. We’ll come back with a clear quote and a suggested menu.

Running an event in Charing Heath

Charing Heath is about 7 miles north-west of Ashford, in Kent. We bring festival paella catering to gardens, halls and venues around Charing Heath and nearby villages. We cook in all 922 towns and villages in Kent. Our events stretch from Charing Heath to Canterbury (15 miles away).

For a church fête or fundraiser, at a church such as Church of the Holy Trinity, a paella stall adds a hot meal to the cakes and tombola. Within about 7 miles is the Kent Downs National Landscape, where events may have extra rules on vehicles and waste; we will follow the site’s requirements.

We cover events in every part of TN27 and the streets around it. Local streets include Wind Hill Lane, Cherry Tree Road and Charing Heath Road; an event at home on any of them works well with live paella. Neighbouring places where we cater events include Lenham Heath (1 mile north-west), Stonebridge Green (1 mile south-west), Lenham Forstal (1 mile north-west), Charing (1 mile east) and Cold Harbour (2 miles north). Within a short drive, we also cover Maidstone (11 miles west), Ashford (7 miles south-east), Canterbury (15 miles east), Sittingbourne (9 miles north), Whitstable (15 miles north-east) and Faversham (9 miles north-east).

Well-known places in the area include Coldbridge Castle (2.9 miles west).

Live paella or other catering?

Food that sits in a hot cabinet isn’t much to look at. A giant pan cooking in view sells itself. Larger events normally cost less per head, because the cooking set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Give us your numbers and we’ll quote.

Why us?

  • Food that becomes part of the entertainment
  • Served hot, straight from the pan
  • Everything cooked fresh at your event
  • We cover Charing Heath and the whole of Kent

Charing Heath: your questions answered

Is Charing Heath close to London?

Roughly 42 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

Is Charing Heath too small for live paella?

No, we cook in small places too. Let us know about access and parking.

What do you need at the venue?

A level space for the pans, burners and a serving table, in the open air or a ventilated covered area, and the venue’s permission for live cooking.

Do you clear up afterwards?

Our cooking area is packed away and left clean. Ask us about table clearing if you need it.

How many paellas should we have?

Most events have two or three: meat or mixed, seafood, and vegetable or vegan. We will help you decide the split.

Can you trade at our festival or fair?

Send us the event details, dates and pitch information, and we’ll let you know if we’re available.

Do you cater for young children?

Of course. A simple chicken paella is typically popular with children. Include children in your numbers.

Do you need power?

Let us know what the pitch has and we’ll confirm our needs.

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

Cooking paella for a crowd yourself is possible, but it is harder than it looks. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.

Hiring a pan and burner is one option, but you’ll still need to source ingredients, prep and cook for hours. We take care of all of it.

Planning for every diet

We cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests. To get it right:

  • Check allergen info is on display
  • Ensure the line-up includes vegan and gluten-free options
  • Ask traders about serving speed at peak times
  • Agree waste arrangements with traders

Crew meals are served at set times.

How the day works

When we arrive, we set up the burners and pans and start cooking the sofrito and stock. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, so the timing is planned around your event. Evening events in Charing Heath have light until about 9:15pm at midsummer; after dark, we need a lit pitch.

  1. We check your dates.
  2. We agree menu and pitch.
  3. Burners and pans go up.
  4. The first pans are ready as visitors arrive.
  5. We serve, then clear the pitch at the end.

Getting ready for the day

  • Confirm the venue is happy with live cooking
  • Name one person we can ask on the day
  • Leave space around the cooking area

Organising for someone else?

Many venues have rules for outside caterers: cooking areas, access times and documents. Send us your venue’s requirements and we’ll follow them.

If your event is in a public space, such as a park, check what permission you need first. We can send whatever the landowner or council needs from us.
