FAQs for Rownhams

How far is Rownhams from London?

About 70 miles from central London.

Can you cook near the sea around Rownhams?

Yes, with a sheltered cooking spot. Sea breezes cool the pan, so a windbreak, building or gazebo helps.

Do you cook inside?

Generally we cook outdoors or under a ventilated cover, because we use gas burners. Some venues have suitable spaces; we’ll check with you and the venue.

Which areas do you serve?

We cater across London and the South East, Southampton included. See all areas.

How much is live paella catering?

Every event is quoted individually, so you only pay for what you need. Give us your date, numbers and menu ideas for a clear quote.

Can you send documents to our venue?

Tell us what your venue or facilities team needs, and we’ll provide it.

Can we pay by invoice?

We’ll explain booking and payment when you enquire.

Why live cooking beats a buffet

Food vans can create long queues. Paella pans serve many people quickly. Larger events generally cost less per head, because the cooking set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

DIY paella versus live catering

Cooking paella for a crowd yourself is possible, but it is harder than it looks. Large pans need the right burners, and getting the rice right at scale is tricky. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, keep the stock hot, and leave the rice alone once it is in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

How it works

On the day, we set up our cooking area, light the burners and start the sofrito. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, so the timing is planned around your event. December events in Rownhams are in the dark from about 4:00pm, so plan lighting where we cook. Summer events have daylight until around 9:25pm.

  1. Send us the date, venue, numbers, timings and diets.
  2. You get a menu, a quote and any documents the venue asks for.
  3. We agree access, parking and set-up times with you or the venue.
  4. On the day we set up, cook live and serve at the agreed time.
  5. We clear our cooking area away and leave the space as we found it.

Preparing for the day

  • Have a level space ready for the pans
  • Arrange a covered spot for wet weather
  • Share the running order, including any speeches
